Breaking: Yevgeny Prigozhin on Plane That Crashed... or Was He?

It would help if we knew what brought the plane down. I read that a fire was reported onboard, so if that’s true, it could have been an accident of some sort. We will know more after the investigation as to what brought the plane down.

I am sure they will be checking parts of the plane for any type of missile gases left behind or fragments that have powder on them.
Who is doing the checking? If the plane was shot down by the Russian government, don't expect any reports confirming that it was shot down.

Under International agreements that were signed in Chicago, (ICAO), the NTSB does have a right to oversee or to put it bluntly, stick their nose into watching how the investigation is handled. If the plane or any of the parts of the plane were made in the U.S. the NTSB can be included in the investigation, but only in a very small way. At mist, the Russians will most likely only allow 1 or 2 investigators into the country. They will also probably be forbidden from removing any of the debris.

The Russian agency (FATA) will be in charge of the investigation. It’s unlikely the NTSB will be too involved. The Russians are very protective with what goes on in the country. However, if they find evidence of a rocket or missile explosion, they are under duty to report it. Can they hide it or lie about it? Of course they can.

It’s always been the NTSB’s rule that every airplane accident must be investigated and the cause must be determined and reported openly.

If it's really him, I'm surprised they let him live this long.
It is a dangerous move by Putin. The members of the Wagner Group are probably not too happy about this. Apparently there were a couple of other Wagner leaders also on the plane.

Putin's war is not going well. Ukraine is now attacking targets in Crimea and using drones with effect on Russian shipping and airfields well inside the Russian borders. Russian casualties continue to be high enough to create trouble for Putin from Russian citizens, especially the mothers. He had better watch his back at home. Having angry Wagner Group mercenaries could be the least of his worries.

There is extensive planning when dealing succession planning that avoids this scenario.
Typically, in the private sector companies I've been involved in, no two senior decision makers can fly on a flight together. That is built into a crisis plan.
I would be surprised if 1) this is accurate information, 2) if true, there should have been a succession plan in place to immediately engage the operations with the wishes of the owners. 3) There is uncorroborated information that the second in charge was also on that plane. Find that hard to believe if proper planning was in place.
Onlookers are reporting that one of the wings were missing just before the crash.

I'm not buying much of the attempted revolt anymore. The fact that he was not summarily executed by Putin made me wonder if it was real. Some experts were saying it was to draw attention from Ukraine's counter offensive. Also heard that day if he continued on to Moscow and Kremlim at that time it would've been easy/ier to capture. Just capturing it and creating those headlines would've been enough to make people think twice about Putin

Here's the rub: Russia's "election" is coming up in March next year. Of those within his inner circle that are still alive; oligarchs, generals, and secretaries and ministries of whatever; some want to become the new president and some are loyal to Putin.

The only way Putin can't win another term is if they "arrest" him, which they have authority to do. But they are in an extremely dangerous position because they can't agree on who among them will be the new president and they can't trust each other nor the FSS(KGB).

It's thought that Prigozhen fancied himself Putin's arresting general and Russia's next president when he decided to march toward Moscow, but something went wrong....his allies chickened out or something.

So, there's a lot going on. Some of the inner circle just want to flee Moscow with their riches, but they're stuck, too afraid, have spouses, children, and grandchildren under threat there.

The election is fixed, of course, and if Putin is reelected he'll be the longest serving Russ pres ever...well, in fact, he already is. Possibly not the deadliest, though...yet.

From AP today 4:20 PM eastern:

WASHINGTON (AP) — A preliminary U.S. intelligence assessment concluded that the plane crash presumed to have killed Russian mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin was intentionally caused by an explosion as Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday eulogized the man who staged the biggest challenge to his 23-year rule.

One of the U.S. and Western officials who described the initial assessment said it determined that Prigozhin was “very likely” targeted and that the explosion falls in line with Putin’s “long history of trying to silence his critics.”

Videos of the crash show that a wing and part of the fuselage were missing, damage that could only have been caused by a missile, experts say.

Not surprised. To be honest, I don't much care what it was that brought him down. Putin assassinating people isn't new, and it's not like the guy was anything but a nasty piece of work. Talk about live and die by the sword.........

It was extremely lucrative while it lasted. When Russian authorities raided Prigozhen's apartment, there were hundreds of millions in US dollars, gold bricks and silver ingots, and diamonds and other valuable gems just laying around in boxes, bags and right out in the open.

Too much affluence is when you've got hundreds of bundles of $1,000 bills layin' on the kitchen floor next to the cat's litter box....self-cleaning, of course. 🤪
