I'm not buying much of the attempted revolt anymore. The fact that he was not summarily executed by Putin made me wonder if it was real. Some experts were saying it was to draw attention from Ukraine's counter offensive. Also heard that day if he continued on to Moscow and Kremlim at that time it would've been easy/ier to capture. Just capturing it and creating those headlines would've been enough to make people think twice about Putin
Here's the rub: Russia's "election" is coming up in March next year. Of those within his inner circle that are still alive; oligarchs, generals, and secretaries and ministries of whatever; some want to become the new president and some are loyal to Putin.
The only way Putin
can't win another term is if they "arrest" him, which they have authority to do. But they are in an extremely dangerous position because they can't agree on who among them will be the new president and they can't trust each other nor the FSS(KGB).
It's thought that Prigozhen fancied himself Putin's arresting general and Russia's next president when he decided to march toward Moscow, but something went wrong....his allies chickened out or something.
So, there's a lot going on. Some of the inner circle just want to flee Moscow with their riches, but they're stuck, too afraid, have spouses, children, and grandchildren under threat there.
The election is fixed, of course, and if Putin is reelected he'll be the longest serving Russ pres ever...well, in fact, he already is. Possibly not the deadliest, though...yet.
