Buckaroo and a Harem of Two

Thanks Jilly, I was cleaning some veggies this afternoon and put the scraps in the food processor I was using when I was done. Thought they might enjoy them and they really did once they figured out it was food. I compost my veggie scraps, so I'll give chicks a shot at them first from now on.

The two eggs I got this morning were very small, like banty eggs. I guess that's good if you're on a diet..lol

Bet they're not as tiny as ones a little frustrated Zebra finch I had laid. She laid 22 in total in the brooding Canary's nest before she ran out of steam. Every morning I'd fish the little Zebbie ones out of the nest or there wouldn't have been room for the Canary.

All those eggs, OG, what about some egg custard pies, egg salad, and deviled eggs? Bet you're good at making all of it!:stirthepot:

Buckaroo and Harem Pictures

I finally got around to getting some pics of Buckaroo and his girls Minxy and Trix. They have settled in nicely, and Buckaroo is a real little gentleman. When we throw treats out for them such as some bread crumbs or veggie trimming I've saved for them, he lets the girls eat all they want first. They are a greedy pair and will take pieces of bread right out of his beak as he's trying to get a bite. He's very protective and attached to them and if one gets separated from him he has a squawking fit.

They took right to their coop and head in early in the evening to roost. Sometimes in the morning I have an egg in the nest box, from which one I haven't been able to tell yet.

I've never had chickens before BBB, and grew quite attached to him, as he had a funny little personality and a repertoire of antics that kept us amused.

Buckaroo doesn't have as much personality, but he's taking his job of looking out for his girls seriously, and once in a while he's rewarded with a little whoopee from them.

You might notice that Ohno has a muzzle on. It's not to keep him from the chickens, but to keep him from eating anything he can find to chow down on and cost me big bucks in vet bills. He's gotten used to wearing it outside now, so please don't feel sorry for him...bleesss his little hoorrtt..it's for his own good!

Sshhhhh. You'll have all our fellas racing out to grab shiny Vegas showgirls.

Great to see them in their little menage et trois OG, it makes them all that much more real to us.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments...Buckaroo truly won the chicken lottery..from destined to end up in the stew pot to having his own little chickendom. It's a win win for Buckaroo and I both as I get a lot of relaxation just sitting and watching him and his little harem picking and scratching around to see what morsels they can uncover, and Buckaroo keeping his eye on the girls.

Thanks for posting the pictures Ozarkgal, Buckaroo and the girls look sooo sweet, lovely little family there. :love_heart: Hope Ohno's tummy feels better, hard to keep those Schnauzers from getting into the funk, lol.
