Buckingham Palace is set officially to describe Camilla as ‘Queen’, rather than ‘Queen Consort’.

It appears that anyone who may have had contact with either Charles or Diana has a different tale to tell. Who knows what the absolute facts are? Indeed, does anyone actually care at this point in time?

That would be because divorce was extremely difficult. Also, once the queen had produced an heir and a spare she was usually relieved of her marital obligations and could live privately as she pleased, without public scrutiny. The mistress, or mistresses, of the king took her place at court.

That is not what we today would call an "intact" marriage.

I completely understand how you feel and I am sure that there are many who agree with you. Diana was a pawn and sadly the fallout from that continues to this day.

No I'm sure she isn't.. plus he saw the heartbreak that cheating causes .. . he's also become very much part of Catherine's own ''common'' family, his in-laws, including his sister and brother in-law ... , and he's very comfortable with them as a surrogate family.. so I have no doubt whatsoever he's not being unfaithful
 
In looking back at that time and remembering the marriage of Charles and Diana and the subsequent breakup I have to say that the present King is where he should be with his wife Camilla as whatever title they want to give her..

Charles and Camilla were in love for a very long time before they married and before Diana entered the picture.
They did not break up the royal marriage. It was already broken. Their love has endured

His marriage to Diana was arranged. She was known to boast to school friends at age 16 that she was going to marry the prince and not quite as innocent and shy as the media has portrayed her over the years.
It was not a love match for sure.
The royals needed an heir.

Re Camilla, I'm sorry. Without knowing her and without being a Brit, I don't like her if for no other reason than she was the third person in Charles' and Diana's marriage (doubtful that there would have been any scandal re Diana and another man had it not been for Charles not keeping his britches zipped).

Having said that, and being the incredibly shallow person that I am, That Woman is as ugly as homemade sin. There. I said it. She always has an expression on her face that makes it look like she's sneering at the mere mortals. Imagine basing my opinion on her looks (like I said, I'm incredibly shallow). Keep in mind that the reason Charles didn't marry her in the first place is that she's a...gasp...commoner.

My mother used to tell me to cultivate a nice personality because I'd never get anywhere on either my looks or my brains. Apparently, Camilla's mother didn't tell her that. (BTW, I should have listened to my mother.)

Fittingly dressed in royal blue, the King and Queen Consort pose for a new official portrait as Buckingham Palace announced last night that after the Coronation the monarch’s wife will be known as Queen Camilla.

The news came as officials released an image of the elaborately illustrated invitation that will be sent out later this month to 2,000 guests who have secured a much-coveted place at Westminster Abbey on May 6.

The first clue that the King’s long-held dream of having his wife crowned Queen at his side was finally to be realised came in the wording of the invitation itself: ‘The Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.’

Asked about the title – when the accompanying press release itself still referred to Camilla as the Queen Consort – a senior royal aide confirmed: ‘It made sense to refer to her Majesty as The Queen Consort in the early months of His Majesty’s reign, to distinguish from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

‘Queen Camilla is the appropriate title to set against King Charles on the invitation. The Coronation is an appropriate time to start using “Queen Camilla” in an official capacity. All former Queen Consorts have been known as Queen plus their first name.’

I was wrong. Am reading Sally Bedell Smith's George VI and Elizabeth: The Marriage That Saved the Monarchy, and both Queen Alexandra and Queen Mary kept the title of queen as widows. Though they were dowager queens, they used queen as a stand alone title. Queen Elizabeth II's mother Elizabeth used Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother to avoid the confusion of two living Queen Elizabeths. So Camilla will retain her title if widowed.
