Bush says "stuff happens" about mass killings in Oregon

I guess I fail to see what is wrong with his comment about 'stuff happens' and he further comments about stuff happening all the time. Sounds just like everyday common speech in the US.

Yes, stuff happens.

Common English is just what was used. Maybe Bush should have used a lot of political garbage to please some. Stuff does happen doesn't it?

You don't equate the taking of human lives with gun violence as "STUFF".. Bob... What Bush said was minimizing the tragedy.. and not surprising as I'm sure the NRA has contributed heavily to his campaign.. and would prefer this be minimized. STUFF? Seriously Jeb? And HE is suppose to be the SMART brother. I'm surprised he didn't use the more common saying as $hit happens... Bush is a moron.

Would those be your words if it was your wife or son or daughter that got shot to death in a mass killing? Would Bush say that if his wife was lying in a pool of blood? Stuff happens? Doubt it.

Yeah, I imagine if my husband was shot and killed by one of these crazies and someone asked me how I felt, I'd just shrug my shoulders and say, oh well...shit happens.

Ehhh ... a bit insensitive, to be sure ...

Definitely, he's trying too hard to be just a "regular" guy, problem is he's never been, so he has no idea when to use his "common language". Can't believe what comes out of the mouths of some of these politicians really. :D

Yes... that was an absolutely horrible thing for him to say.... I think he's toast... I simply cannot see him being the nominee...but who else is there that's not completely bat shit crazy??

Well, for one, it is not his entire talk and he does speak on about the incident. I can't say for sure but I am not sure any of you read and understood his comments. Just looking for something to twist into black eye for Bush. Typical of the far far left mentality.

But you voted for Obama didn't you? Not a good President in the eyes of many folks in the US and elsewhere.

OMG Does this guy ever quit? First of all Bush is concerned about the NRA campaign money, second of all he never added a word to his original statement until he was called on it.

Yea, yea, always some convoluted excuse for dopey right wing behavior.

It would appear to me that Bush's comment was not about the shootings at the school but the way people react to such events. After stuff happens he mentions all kinds of crisis and what the people tend to do. It was not just focused on the school shootings. Poor chosen words maybe, but not focused at all on just the school shootings last week. He was talking in general of many types of crisis. Of course Obama does try to fit all shootings to be the things we need to look at.

I liked Obama's response as he said it is up to the people to decide, not him. Waiting to hear from the people, that will take some time to find out just how many folks will react to Bush's words. And in what manner will they react.

What Jeb Bush Was Talking About When He Said 'Stuff Happens'

by Jordan Frasier

GREENVILLE—Jeb Bush said calls for sweeping government rules and regulation often follow tragedies like the mass shooting this week in Oregon, but that such responses aren't always focused on the correct challenge.

"What we end up doing lots of times is we create rules on the 99.999% of human activity that had nothing to do with the tragedy that had forced the conversation about doing something," Bush said. "Stuff happens, there's always a crisis and the impulse is always to do something and it's not necessarily the right thing to do," he added.

Asked about Bush's comments at a news conference Friday afternoon, President Barack Obama said, "I don't even think I have to react to that one, I think the American people should hear that and make their own judgments based on the fact that every couple of months, we have a mass shooting ... and they can decide whether they consider that 'stuff happening.'"
