Can we talk about Germany's election?

So, there we have it: 3 pages later and 75 posts in, and we still don’t know what we’re supposed to be talking about. :)

Such is the way of forums. Even our tangents have developed minds of their own, wondering off from here and starting their own threads while leaving us all behind.

Donald Horne summed Australia up when he wrote that Australia is "The Lucky Country".

Horne's intent in writing the book was to portray Australia's climb to power and wealth based almost entirely on luck rather than the strength of its political or economic system, which Horne believed was "second rate".

Horne's statement was an indictment of 1960s Australia and it is still relevant in the 21st century.

nothing about luck we stole ;killed ; raped and pillaged to get it and then said "hands off to all - unless you come in peace?"

You're not wrong about that.
Horne is not wrong about the poor quality of the political leadership either. Outstanding leaders have been few and far between in my lifetime. Vision has mostly been lacking.

Another version of my reply: please feel free to post about German politics; it's not against the rules. However, please be aware that your thread may be locked or deleted at any time, as someone will use it to make a statement about US politics - whether subtly or brazenly.

I guess I hope Europe chooses a good road for the future.
Russia ? China ? India ? Iran ? etc. I really don't care what they want!
Another day like today and I'm power Washing the house. I got the new
100-foot hose today to hook to the power washer. yea. I would power
wash lots more if I could. I'm sure increases in driving on the i-states
past my place every day and night causes most of the scum on my light-colored
house. Those are my fish to fry. Siding, eves and down spouts, heavy hp
water spray. I got gloves and safety glasses. 60 / 65 F. works well for me.

I suppose there will be lots of verbal hate rants in the upcoming 2 years of
unfixable happenings over there.

I remember Spain and going out to eat in the later evening sky. ... :ROFLMAO: ...
My brother was over there, NATO stationed in Brussels. He liked touring
most of Continental Europe.

Plus..plus... you have so much more space......and your medical services are not affected by immigrants...
Perhaps not in the same way they are in countries with national health care. American hospitals are obligated to treat people who come into their emergency rooms, regardless of their ability to pay. This is due to the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, which was passed in 1986. Those costs are passed on to others via increased rates to keep the profit at an acceptable level.

I find it quite interesting that the Germans in all their wisdom encouraged thousands of Islamic brethren to immigrate to Germany for obvious reasons ; into a country that is quite strongly christianized ; and who undoubtedly when allowed to vote will see the whole vista of voting in a christianized country quite differently and perhaps perplexing - voting counselling may be necessary?
It was the politicians who made this decision. Many Germans were against it but were over-ruled. Frau Merkel was regarded as a traitor by many.
Too many politicians are idealists and force their ideas on the rest of us. They should concentrate on doing what is right for their country.

People need to fix their own countries instead of immigrating to other countries that have different cultures. This is a map of countries that are predominantly Muslim.

It's an area about twice the size of Europe! So why are they fleeing their countries and going to non-Muslim countries, but continuing their Muslim customs and beliefs? What they're doing is bringing their radical religious ideologies to Europe, which is much more secular and modern.

It's understandable why voters are favoring anti-immigrant candidates.
