Cats vs. Dogs?

Let me say that I am completely neutral when it comes to the two. I had a Beagle that I absolutely loved when I was a child. As I grew into adulthood, my roommate brought home a kitten that stole my heart. I kept her for 17 years, and she was the sweetest companion I could have ever wished for. She was my solace through my "single years". She didn't take to anyone else, but she loved me. I think that is one of the big differences between cats and dogs.

I've only had cats since then, mostly because I travelled a lot and needed a pet that was fairly independent while I was gone. I still absolutely love dogs, but still have cats. Actually, we currently have a cat that is like a dog. He snuggles up with us and "climbs" us when we come home.

I know there are people out there who don't care for cats, so my feelings won't be hurt if you prefer dogs. Just curious as to which you prefer and what "kids" you have in your home.

I have owned both cats and big dogs. I live in a condo now and have a rescued female cat. She is a sweetheart. I like cats and dogs equally, but the condo rules are one pet not bigger than 20 lbs. So that leaves out big dogs. I don't think I have the strength to walk a dog every day like I used to. A cat doesn't require as much care as a dog.

I love both dogs and cats, but alas - I am allergic to cats :(
We've always had dogs, mainly x-labradors.

One time, I cat-sat for my nephew & his wife. I took antihistamines every day. Siamey was the loveliest cat I've ever met .. so affectionate, and talk about good-natured. He allowed me to give him his pills, 3x a day, and never ever ran away or bit down on my fingers. He would lie on me, vertically, with his arms around my neck and fall asleep .. every afternoon.

Dogs have owners.

Cats have staff.

I love dogs and cats for their respective attitudes.

Dogs are pure love, that's what they live for....to love and be loved. They're willing to abase themselves for that love. Love, love, love.

Cats want to be respected. Love is important, but respect is supreme. They're "Supreme Beings" and you'd best acknowledge that.

I have a theory that dogs and cats are reincarnated humans.

Dogs are still "paying off" something they did in a previous life, like being used car salesmen or crooked lawyers or telephone solicitors, and they have to be loving and loyal to work off their previous karma.

Cats, on the other hand, are at the end of the "spiral"....... one or two more incarnations and they're off to Nirvana. Maybe they were kindly teachers or honest politicians or Mother Theresa last time around. They have nothing to prove and can hang around basking in their magnificence and being served. I can only stand by in awe and respect in the presence of such superiority.

I mean, look what happens when you walk through the door: Dog: "YOU'RE HOME! YOU'RE HOME! I THOUGHT YOU WERE NEVER GOING TO COME BACK! I'VE MISSED YOU SOOOO MUCH. PLEASE LET ME DANCE AROUND AND JUMP ON YOU AND LICK YOUR KNEES IN ADORATION!" Cat: "Oh, you're back? I didn't notice you were gone. Where's my food? Prepare some immediately whilst I sit and groom myself nonchalantly and ignore you."

Gotta love 'em, big and small, canine and feline.

I am a dog person though I like cats too, and I’ve met and fallen in love with a couple of amazing cats but won’t own one unless it’s a Sphinx. They’re a combination of dog and monkey 😂 My daughter has one and I’d take her in a heartbeat.

I prefer small dogs though when I had young children I only had big ones. After they left I indulged my preference and have had one or more small dogs ever since. We are looking after my step daughter’s big old dog right now, and I do love him! 💕

I prefer dogs, I've never had a cat, always had German Shepherds around as a child, although my parents borrowed a neighbours cat when there was a wild rodent on the loose in a previous house, the cat dealt with it no problem. 🙈

Any animal that gives you comfort is a good animal, whether it's a cat, dog, rat, or lizard. I worked with a fellow who loved his pet goldfish. One of my favorite pets was a Mallard duck. She was loveable and funny.

My wife and I love dogs and have always had one. I don't hate cats, but the fact that they get into everything puts me off having one.

Growing up I had a fear of dogs because my Dad had been attacked by one. After I had kids I didn't want them to have the same fear of dogs that I did so I got a dog. We got an English Setter. After one day with him, I fell in love and never had a fear of dogs again. After he passed we got a labrador. We never had a cat because of my son's allergies so I am truly a dog person.

There is NO animal I don't love.
I've had cats, (both wild & domestic) dogs, a 10-foot, 60 lb Boa Constrictor & a lizard. A few months ago, a baby squirrel started following me & I cared for him until he was well enough to let go.
I also feed 5 Raccoons that visit me almost every night. Two of them take food out of my hand.
Last month, an Opossum showed up with 3 babies for some kibble.

Mine was 3 feet larger than this one: Ya know, even if you don't like snakes, ya gotta admit they're pretty.
Seven-foot boa constrictor briefly on the loose in a Fraser Valley neighbourhood
