A cheating scandal involving a cheat sheet has been found at the Pennsylvania State Police Academy. 29 Cadets have been expelled or resigned. Now this class will only graduate 70 instead of the 100 that it was intended for.

Not surprised because even though a civil service job in most states it's still a government job where most hires are from politicians who get their friends, neighbors and family in with or for political favors. This is bad, 30% of a class decides or has to cheat on a written test they should know. It's their job to learn it. This goes beyond cheating to scary because as hard as any military academy can be many seem to get through it without cheating. And as with many of these scandals these are only the ones that got caught.

I'm not surprised but disappointed to see it on such a large scale. Universities even the military academies experience a cheating scandal every now and then. But in most states becoming a state trooper is much harder and the candidates tend to be different breed of candidate compared to your average city or municipal cop. Some states allow for part time at night for a municipal certification, this is where I expect cheating, not in military type setting.

I curious as to what the course or subject matter was that might have motivated them to cheat.

My professionalism will not allow me to mention names or give details of information beyond what has been reported. However, to clarify this issue, I was informed that one of the Cadets ratted out his fellow Cadets when he had learned of the cheating. This is one of those instances where ratting out a fellow classmate is acceptable. The Pennsylvania State Police has always held themselves (ourselves) to a higher standard and we must protect the integrity of the uniform and badge.

Some of the questions on the written exams were also used in past prior class's exams and someone was able to acquire a copy of those exams and decided that it was a good idea to share the answers. Obviously, he thought that this may be a good idea in case he was caught that he would not go down alone. I mean, after all, the State Police surely would not dare fire 20+ Cadets due to the bad publicity that it would cause. It appears that his thinking was wrong.

We have been informed by those in charge of the issues and have been assured that this matter has been dealt with in accordance with the policies set forth. We are only as strong as our weakest link and if we have 20+ weak links, then they must be replaced, or in this case, just removed. The good news is that graduation will not last as long as in prior years.

Those officials did a good job in trying to rid the academy of cheats. In too many government organizations or even corporate America many in a position to do something ie their job refuse to do it for appearances sake-nothing to see here, move a long. Still curious about the subject matter like law, procedures, first aid?

Shorter graduation ceremony now-LOL, hopefully those graduates will not have to bear the burden of the scandal on the job.

Integrity is everything.

Absolutely. And like many other things in life certain behaviors escalate or expand. So if these same students couldn't follow procedure and honor code in a controlled environment what would they do with evidence or an official report in a real world criminal case.
