Chicago : Shooter on store roof kills six and injures 18

From what I've read and seen on the news about this, I think all of the hate expressed here is misplaced. This guy is clearly as nutty as a fruitcake. The meaningless killings without any motive, the randomness of it, the fact that he was getting ready to do another mass shooting in another town, the fact that he has a history of attempted suicide, and even that business of dressing like a woman while on the run from the police, all seem to me to point to severe mental illness. No, I'm not making any "excuses" for him, there are no excuses. But it seems to me that the real blame should go to the gun lovers who are happy to set the scene for one mass murder after another, by refusing to ban sales of these assault rifles. There is absolutely no reason on earth that a civilian should be able to go into a gun shop and buy one, even legally, even without a history of prior gun violence. (Illinois has a "red flag" law; it didn't help.) What possible legitimate reason could there be for any civilian to need such a weapon?

The legislature of each state, or better still, the U.S. Congress, should pass laws absolutely banning this kind of weapon, except for use when needed by the military and police. There should be a heavy fine, or even a prison sentence, for any gun dealer or employee in a gun shop who violates this.

In my opinion, the insane shooter was really just a middleman. The real criminals were those who made it possible for him to have a gun. Including his father, who I believe was involved.

He looks like something from another planet.

Heard on the News...he pleaded not guilty!?!?!
How can that be.?
Except..." For reasons of Insanity"?

Any legal-eeses...out there...care to comment?

Once again, you're showing you ignorance by using the "slanted media" term "assault rifle".
Please describe what an assault rifle is. Here... I'll help you a bit. The military term assault rifle is used to describe fully automatic weapons, which civilians can only own by jumping through numerous checks and balances. (your run of the mill nut job has NO chance of purchasing).
Next, if a person uses a rifle of any kind against another human being, isn't that an assault? So, therefore, even a flintlock single shot rifle would fit the "slanted media's" description of an assault rifle.
I get it that you are against scary black guns, so just be honest and say so.
Oh yeah... the argument that the "slanted media's" contention that assault weapons hold multiple rounds doesn't wash either. You can get a 22 cal. rifle, a 30:06 deer rifle, a 32:30 lever action rifle and many more that all hold multiple roads.

That's true. But looks don't mean much.
Does this guy look normal? (Las Vegas shooter - killed 51)

Is that his mug shot. Or could just be a bad photo - we all have those.

He probably looked like your average 50 year old.

A "not guilty" plea is a term of art. It means that the prosecution has to prove that the defendant committed all elements of each crime charged, beyond a reasonable doubt, for each crime charged.

It does not mean factual innocence.

That Las Vegas shooter has a kind of dazed look, no expression, his eyes look cold. But practically every mug shot of everybody who is ever arrested has that expression. I don't know how they do it, but they manage to get that same look from nearly all of them.

The Highand Park shooter does look even more freakish than most of them. Stay tuned to the news. It sounds like his father was somehow involved in covering for him.
