Childless Couples....Selfish?

If you love dogs and you know you cannot provide one with plenty of space and companionship would you be selfish for refusing to own one?
The issue isn't "me, me, me" (hmm, or is it?) but about society at large.

not watching 21 minutes of a youtube video - but obviously the human population is in no danger of disappearing from the earth - the idea that people have an obligation to society to produce children so we don't all die out is just ludicrous.

While some may view childlessness as a rejection of societal expectations or a lack of responsibility, others see it as a legitimate choice and a reflection of personal autonomy and fulfillment.
From the anecdotes of all our friends and family our status that society defines as childless, I would redefine as: "Well rested." About those anecdotes, the husband of a great couple once said, out of earshot of his lovely wife: "The coitus interruptus method of birth control cost about eight grand in daycare last year." It was all I could do not to choke on the mouthful of coffee that I had just sipped.
