Cliches.

Do you use them often? Some are cute, but some are used so often it's like fingernails down a chalkboard.

The one that is most irritating to me is: "to say the least".

What's yours?

Basically, I'm down with using rad cliches. To say the least, it's a simply awesome way to yak it up. When the rubber hits the road, I'm going to use language as American as apple pie.

I dislike cliches. Seems we've lost the ability to converse without either using cliches... or worse... curse words. Cliches can see significantly different popularity, depending on culture.... bless your heart!!! :D

What annoys me the most is when I'm having a conversation with someone and after every sentence they say "Do you know what I mean", I want to say to them please repeat it to me because I must be stupid ,if I couldn't understand you the first time you said it.

Uptalking.... This is when every sentence ends in an up tone... like it was a Question? I went to the store? I met my friend Mary there? and she was wearing her new coat? You understand what I mean... It irks the hell out of me.

Every weekend in the world of sports .....

I've rarely heard it here but in a certain area of England, they tend to end every sentence with 'yea?'. Drives me nuts.

Politicians here are always saying 'I say to you'. Well, obviously you are saying it to me. Just say it!

Am tired of hearing "Just be yourself", "live your dreams" "you are only as old as you feel" (false)
"Don't give up, keep trying" "You make your own luck" "Happiness is what you make it"
"The glass is half full" and so many optimistic half-truths.
All of these have some truth and some untruth.
Perhaps the worst one attributed to Nietzsche is that whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger
or some rubbish like that.

I try not to use cliches but get sucked in occasionally. One writing instructor said, 'if you've seen something once, by the time you get around to using it, it's probably already a cliche; don't use it. We're all different and we do the best we can. Generally, the less we use the better our writing will be.
