Combating muscle soreness from workouts

I get debilitating muscle soreness regularly. I really dislike layover days, and I feel I should be able to do more.

Yesterday I did a 3 mile walk with my dog. My legs are sore, but my back and shoulders are killing me. I wore a small pack with a water bottle and as it warmed up a shirt I took off. Last week after a shorter 1 mile dog walk, I head out on my bike for what felt like a glorious ride. It was a bit windy and I cut it short, doing 1 mile or so. Again my back suffered. My legs were pretty sore afterwards. I spent 48 hours sore and had a layover day.

These incredibly short workouts combined with the soreness are driving me nuts. Is there anyway to get more consistent results, relieve muscle soreness?

OP, it would take a LOT more info about you and your present fitness to ever be able to make a fitness plan w accuracy or relevancy to you.

The basics are consistent exercise, hydration (add electrolytes?), proper diet, and your favorite, recovery. Perhaps some static stretching post activity, and foam rolling will calm those muscles after your workout.

You may be overdoing it. Try to do half what you're doing for a while and see if it helps.

Thank you all. It seems I am in good company.
