Cops: love 'um or hate 'um

Well, I can ask you for ID too, doesn't mean you have to give it to me. Same for cops. Seems to matter what State you're in.
Again, does not matter what state it is, S&I or not, simply ASKING is permitted.

I've been on both sides of this centuries old hot button issue I've done bad and got a undeserved pass and I've done nothing and punished without any possible chance of legal recourse so I have no dogs in this race so as far as I see this as according to ones mindset, loving or hating cops is pretty much the same as loving or hating crackheads. You can call a cop or you can call a crackhead and you can sue a cop and possibly win or lose but can you sue a crackhead and possibly win?

Cops in metro locations become jaded withing 2-3 years (if their working the street),their very disappointed in their fellow man and
perceive civilians as a foreign intruder.
Their mandate to 'To Protect and Serve,' becomes lost in the swirl of events present in our complex society.

Moot point?! It's the only point! Don't resist and you don't die! For the vast majority of these incidences that's the simple solution.
And yes, there are certainly some bad shoots also and nothing excuses that and those cops need to rot in jail.
Can you name me some cases of people who were actually complying with instructions were shot? I'd really like to investigate because I don't know of any, but willing to learn.
Again I stress the point. People who were following orders have indeed been killed! People who have been sitting in their homes, watching T.V., eating snacks..have been killed with no warning by cops who didn't know what the hell they were doing. then what...the families of the victims get an "Oops, sorry, we were in the wrong apartment". So that don't resist sh*t as an excuse doesn't work with me! And now I'm done with it.

Us vs Them Post 55,
It is a hell'va note when your in your own home, doing nothing to warrant being shot.
We have become accustom to fatalities from drive by killings-but Cops!

And I ask again, who was killed that was complying with orders? As I said, I know of none but am willing to learn.

But are you saying you can be arrested for refusing? Anybody can ask anybody anything
No one is required to possess an ID, exceptions of course, like driving, etc. If all is square, you have to comply with the law in that state, yes. If you have no ID you have to give your name, address or whatever elements it requires or you can be arrested.

And I ask again, who was killed that was complying with orders? As I said, I know of none but am willing to learn.
Here is a list of some of those who were killed by police, 44 total. The circumstances are listed for each. I know Philandro Castile is one who complied and was shot anyway in front of his child . Some didn't get any orders to comply with...were just shot. Out of these 44, I counted about 7 who were resisted in some way and 2 or 3 where the circumstances were questionable. Add to this list:
45. Unknown little boy, 8 years old, out for a stroll with his father. Shot by a cop because "he looked like the perp". This happened when my son was about 3, that's 50 years ago.
46. Unknown 14 year old who had stolen a bike, around the same time as #45 incident. He was riding away when he was killed. These last two incidents were what made me aware I need to fear for my son's life when it came to some police.
47. Amadou Diallo 1999. This poor man had just gotten home after a meal, was reaching in his pocket to show his wallet after he was stopped, so police could see it was a case of mistaken identity (they thought he was a rapist they had been looking for). He was fired at 41 times by 4 officers and 19 shots hit him. He was not who they were looking for! I saw his tiny, humble, lovely mother at a protest against police brutality in Washington D.C. not long after his murder.
48. 15 year old brown Hispanic boy. He was chased and knocked down and was already restrained on the ground. His hands were up over his head in surrender position when the cop shot and killed him. This was in my town. A co-worker and I attended the vigil for him.

I'm sure there are more I don't know about because all of these cases don't make national news. I wouldn't have known about #45 and #46 way back then if it wasn't for Jet magazine. There are a few from the site below I'd never heard about:

Cops: love 'um or hate 'um

I respect ‘um, obey ‘um and do my best to avoid ‘um.
Outside of the "respect 'um", this pretty much is my thinking too.
There are reasons why citizens don't respect the police. I have 2.

Years ago when I was 18 years old I was driving at night and got lost. I went into an industrial park to turn around and evidently was exceeding the speed limit. I think the speed limit was like 25 mph or something. A policeman pulled me over, told me I was speeding, but he "really didn't want to give me a ticket". I said something like, "well, I guess you have to do what you have to do". He repeated, "I really don't want to give you a ticket". At that point, red flags went up and I realized he wanted something from me to avoid getting the ticket, be it money or sexual favors...who knows? I don't remember exactly what I said after that, something like, oh well, I guess I've learned my lesson, or whatever popped out of my mouth. He just sighed, wrote the ticket, and I drove away very scared and feeling like I just dodged a bullet. (No pun intended).

The second time was a few years later when I was at a nightclub, sitting with a friend at the bar. A guy sat down next to me and started a conversation, during which he mentioned he was a cop, trying to impress me I suppose. A few minutes later he asks, "want to see my gun?" and drops his gun right in my lap! I gasped, told him to get that thing off me, and my friend and I got up and left.

No, I have no respect for cops.

How did we get into this situation, how do we right the boat?

read the following:

Busted: A Tale of Corruption and Betrayal in the City of Brotherly Love by Wendy Ruderman (goodreads.com)

Serpico by Peter Maas (goodreads.com)

My Midnight Years | Chicago Review Press

All three books reveal how it is corrupt police who control drugs in the cities and whose racism destroys the quality of life and disrupts social harmony. As a society we have given too much unconstitutional authority to cops. The solution is to compel them to enforce the law on a uniform basis, to hold any criminal cops accountable for their crimes, and adhere to the Constitution as it is written. Not as interpreted by right wing courts.

I'll read through that but I was more thinking of less ancient history than 50 years ago. I agree the Castille shooting was bad. There needs to be a better way to test cops under pressure to see how they react. I see most of these shootings as cops panicking than the idea that they're actually trying to kill a minority.

Surely it has happened before, but no police officer is going to state "He was complying with my order, but I still killed him." To clear himself, he of course needs to lie.
There's no doubt in my mind it's happened, but in many of these cases there's eyewitness testimony that the victims decided to struggle with police.

I don't love or hate them. I appreciate the ones who do their jobs and protect the citizens in an equal and fair manner. I have no tolerance for the ones who abuse their power by killing Americans (usually those of color) for no valid reason, and the cops who cover up their corruption. Those should be stripped of their badges and denied the right to own a gun, they have proven repeatedly that they can't use it responsibly and they have underlying personality faults.

I really do think that we need some serious police oversight and people in this country need to get serious about gun control and gun violence what happened in this instance is just appalling.

I agree, there needs to be some police reform for sure and we need to address the escalating amount of gun violence in this country. I am not against guns, people should be able to own them for protection or for licensed hunting during hunting season. The people who take the law into their own hands and murder people, need to be stopped. Too many angry nuts out there, taking innocent lives due to their own prejudices.

In my book most cops are protectors. There are a handful of questionable ones. I just always comply with them.

And I had a bad experience with some many years ago but most experiences I've had with them were valid.
