Baby can be the first person born in the UK without a mother if a transgender male wins a historical human rights battle.

The child is born from a single parent who was born a woman but now lives as a man after surgery.
The, now man, wants to be recognized as the father on the birth certificate but the law requires that a women be on the certificate, since women are technically the only ones able to give birth .

Thoughts?

I’ll share my thoughts. I think it’s sooo very sad. It’s not something I would have thought of before. It seems like the start of a new era.

Its hard for me in all of this. I am just too old for it. He may be living a a man but is still a woman to me. Wish for the days when if you were born a girl, you were a girl and vice versa. Those days are gone but I still cling to my thoughts and beliefs. I will not hurt anyones feelings as to who they think they are and will not condemn their lifestyle but will not change my own either. Just glad my 2 girls are grown and I don't have to deal with any of it on a daily basis. It might be a start of a new era but I will stay in my own.

My only concern in any of these headline-grabbing cases is for the child.

As far as the paperwork goes, the person providing the egg is your mom, the person providing the sperm is your dad, and the people that raise and love you are your parents.

Page not found, at the link.

So he/she...places more validity on the title typed into a given space on an affidavit then he/she does with the amazing natural act of birth?

So the child then ends up with a he/she dad, that used to be anatomically a woman, and no mention of a mother.

And we wonder why suicides are up.....:(

If the child is conceived with an egg from a biological female of our species, said child has a mother, just as a baby conceived with donor sperm has a biological father. In this case, the preferred gender identification of the parent is trumped by the biological identification. As of 2018 only humans with female reproductive organs can biologically carry a baby.

Perhaps the court will rule that "mother" on a birth certificate isn't necessarily a gender designation, but rather the identifier of the person who gestated the baby.

Thanks !

Frankly, I just don't what to say about it......My opinion really doesn't matter anyway, that said though I think it's silly.

IMO, this sort of thing is allot of what is wrong in society today , and that we should get back to the 'old' way in many ways.....this is one of them. Perhaps one of the more important ones?

I'm soon to be 69, as such i have 'old man' thinking...and , lets face it I'm on my way out. How soon?...no one knows, but I'm sure I'm closer to the end than i am the beginning . As such I'll step aside and let the incoming generation do things as they please / their way. Hope it works for them.

Keesha, I don't know if you were answering rgp or me. If it was me, I didn't mean I was having trouble getting to your link, I meant I'm having trouble dealing with pronouns for the whole subject.

If this "man" was still a "woman" at the time "she" gave birth to the baby, "he/she" is still the child's mother. I consider this whole thing a kind of mental illness, anyway. He/she is trying to change reality. I feel
sorry for him/her, and especially for the baby.

It almost sounds like the old country song, "I'm My Own Grandpa." Except that in real life, it isn't so funny.

Very strange, to say the least. How do they handle the birth certificate when a surrogate mother is used, like for two gay men to have a child? Or for an infertile couple? I don't think the surrogate is listed as the mother on the certificate??? I wonder who the biological father was in this situation? A sperm donor, maybe? How do they handle the birth certificate when a sperm donor is involved in, say, the case of a single woman having a child? I know that sometimes there is no father listed on a birth certificate, but that's a bit different..

Maybe they could list this man as mother under whatever his name was when he was a woman and list him as the father with his present name?? Can of worms.
