Could you make it as a caveman?

"Hey Siri, start the car it's chilly outside". That's how some start their cars when it gets cold. I got to thinking how cavemen would react to all the modern marvels Then I thought cavemen knew all kinds of things we don't. Instead of checking a weather app on a phone, they could tell things from stars, animals, etc. They weren't dumb, they just didn't have the technology we have today, Do you think you could have made it as a caveman?

I don't know if it is all that different. As we age our world becomes smaller and smaller. I often reflect on how as I get older things just keep passing away. It feels like we all live in a cave...it just depends how big/small it is, how expensive, and it's decor.

I might get closer than most, since I hunt and grow a lot of my own food, know wild stuff I can eat and never got too much involved in tech. Still don't even have a cellphone. And I can start a fire without matches and know how to cook with it.

Since Cold War era have thought about how to survive in case a nuclear war destroyed it all and I had managed to make it to northern California Pacific coastal areas away from urban zones. Note have been backpacking in wilderness areas all my adult life. If I had taken nothing with me in my vehicle, I'd probably die after gasoline ran out as soon as I used up all my Bic lighter fluid. Also would be difficult to survive away from coastal areas. But if I had some days to prepare and escape before the war, yeah I could survive much longer than few others. Have books pointing to edible native plants and seashore life and extensive topo maps. Also can fish given I took along gear. Vehicle off on some remote dirt road makes for a solid temporary shelter until more permanent shelter could be built. I am not a bushcraft person but am creative.

If the cave had ramps, handrails, and didn't require crawling on my hands and knees on rock, sure, I'd be fine.

Sure, I was in Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts and the U.S.Army, got all the caveman skills and almost 70 years of living experience at my disposal.

Probably not, most cavemen and cavewomen lead short, uncomfortable and often violent lives.
Glad I didn't get the chance to find out.

Since we moved to a nice rural area, 20 years ago, my "survival" skills have improved substantially. I would sure hate to be without electricity, etc., for more than a few hours, but I think we could survive better, and longer than most who are in the cities.

I apparently start out with an advantage as a "peasant", (or so my "warrior" wife/ex wife described me!).
On thread topic I'd guess I'd struggle a great deal to survive, as perhaps we all would without a very strong band of similarly minded cavemen and cavewomen around us.

However, being on the heavy side I'd guess the younger, fitter hunters might wish to keep me going until leaner hunting times came around, and we'd/I'd perhaps end up in the cooking pot ourselves!!!

Yes, as long as the cave was heated & it had a few necessities in it - pets, a piano, plenty of sugar, & a Glock with lots of ammo.

All this technology has only been around a short while. It's not so long ago that most children were in either the Scouts or the Guides. We were not taught how to hunt or kill animals but we did learn how to survive outdoors. You need to know which plants are edible, and how to build a fire, make cloth from nettles, create a shelter.
Not so difficult really.

Yes, Fred had lots of gadgets, but I'd never put up with a car that you operated manually with bare feet.

Probably if I were born to it. But I wasn't, so probably not for very long.

On the other hand, cavemen thrown into modern times would probably meet their demise more swiftly than we would in theirs. Dodging traffic would kill most within a day.

I don't mind the outdoors, but that outfit they wear is another story entirely. Couldn't handle that.
