So, I was thinking about my own youth and the dating scene, and then comparing it with todays. Talk about a stark difference!
For a start the only way to meet people was by going out somewhere. Dating businesses ran, but they were for richer folk. Today? A partner is one swipe to the right away.
Then I think about how much info people can get about others today. I don't know if anyone ever meets for a date as a stranger any more. People look on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat etc. They can know an awful lot about each other (or seem to, because Social Media is useless at providing context). I don't have a social media presence, and that's probably seen as more of a problem than having one.
Then, when dating someone, you can speak endlessly. No more, "well, good night, I'll call you tomorrow". Nope, DM's mean the conversations just go on and on. Worse, they're shared, and privacy is gone.
Finally there's the control. Since it's easy to track where someone is via their Smartphone, it's got to be difficult. Frankly, it all sounds like a nightmare scenario. Can you imagine? I'm not even saying I'd of been immune to it. If I could find out where my girlfriend was, would I have done it? Yeah, probably. Yikes!
Modern dating gets a NAY from me. Honestly, I'd of been useless at it, and I wasn't that good the old way! But I don't envy people today, that's for sure.
