Dealing with spam email

Like me, you probably get an unwanted collection of spam email every day. It usually has the name of a real company or organization in its title, but it's always a way to get you to send money, or even worse, an entry for them to get into your passwords. And like me, you probably click on "Add to spam folder" or something of the sort.
The problem is, they always turn up again and again. I think their way around it is to slightly change the name of their so-called company. So, after you get a fake sales pitch from Lovely Clothes, inc. and send it to your spam folder, the next day you get a sales pitch from Lovely New Clothes, Inc. They just change one word, and that allows them to keep bothering you.
Do you have this problem, and if so, how do you deal with it? Not the biggest problem in the world, but it is a nuisance to have to keep clicking on "Spam" all the time.

I rarely ever get spam mail in my inbox... it goes straight to my Junk mail, so I don't ever see it until I'm clearing the Junk mail inbox out.. of course every now and again I have to check that a genuine mail hasn't gone in there , but otherwise using Hotmail, as my main address, I never see Junk Mail ..

When I was deluged with spam mail, most of it in the Junk folder, I started blocking them. I would see the same address name but right clicking show it came from another strange source. Decided that was too much effort and now I just delete them, unopened. It’s frustrating the number of valid random emails that end up in Junk, ones that I’ve received for years. Lately, obvious spam is ending up in my real mailbox.

The problem I have is that I bought something from XYZ. com and I may get something from them once more, but I get dozens of emails from them. JC Penny is the worst,
Check the email advertising preferences at the bottom of the letter. You may be able to refine your Preferences. I had to do this with a new Loyalty card; I was getting several emails per day extolling their virtues. I actually started hating them.

Sunny, your email server should have a spam filter. Go to Settings and make sure it's turned on. If it isn't, that's why they keep getting the same ones. Also, updating your email server when it has an update will keep the spam filter current.

I never got spam since XP. That is until Publisher's Clearing House got hold of my email address. They spammed me everyday, and gave my email address to every company around, or so it seemed. I kept getting emails from companies that I never heard of saying, "Thanks for showing interest in our company". I was thinking, "Interest in you? I have never heard of your company!" So I had to of course, change my email address. Whatever you do, do not let Publisher's Clearing House get your email address. You will regret it.

I do have my Spam filter turned on; it's been on for years, since I started using Yahoo for email. Maybe I didn't make it clear: once I have something labeled as Spam, I don't get email from that address any more. They just slightly change their address (probably done electronically) so my Spam filter doesn't recognize it.

Lately, I've been getting a different kind of junk email. It always starts out by congratulating me on being a "winner" of something, or thanks me for being a good customer of their store. It's ususally a store I have never shopped in, in my life. And some of the prizes I have supposedly won are really ridiculous, such as John Deere farm equipment. They want me to click on a link, which I never do, which probably opens up a portal for them into my email list.

I do move them all to Spam, but it's still a nuisance. If I didn't my list of unread email would be a mile long!

When I got overwhelmed with spam, I decided that it was worth it to pay for a private email service. I can block an entire domain with this! I once ordered some supplements from a vitamin store. I got spammed so severely that it was distressing. I got about twenty emails a day from them! So with this new service, I could just block their entire domain and never heard from them again. This service also has an option to whitelist or blacklist a sender, plus the option to use a trainable spam folder, all for under $20 a month. The reason I don't trust automatic spam options, is because I have lost several important emails that way, especially with google. My college was updating their alumni yearbook and had asked me for some info. I didn't see the email in time and lost an opportunity to be in the year book.

I have a throw away address, and originally I thought I would toss it. However, I've used it for over 20 years and I find the scam e-mails so much fun. Needless to say, I did not use my real name.

A few will slip through each week despite AT&T Yahoo filters. Here's the header on one I just sent to my email SPAM folder only a computer ignorant person might open.

Gmail does a good job filtering out actual spam email, but it won't filter out the unwanted solicitations you get from businesses you've dealt with. For those, you have to click "unsubscribe" within that email, or else you can mark as spam and delete.

DITTO...
Gmail has best method for spam filtering. I haven't had any for months.
If one gets through to the inbox you can make a filter and you can also choose several words in the address or subject in the event that they change it slightly for another try.(y)

Gmail automatically sends spam emails to spam folders. No need to open or do anything but hit "delete spam now".
