Do any of you like old romance movies?

I like them really old, anything after about 1950 is too modern for me.
Some of my favorites:
Now Voyager
Rebecca
Laura
Stella Dallas
Mildred Pierce
Yes the "women's movies" but also,
The film noir classics of the 30's and 40's:
Double Indemnity
Out of the Past
In a Lonely Place

With Christmas coming I'm looking forward to my favorite old Christmas romances:
Remember the Night
The Shop Around the Corner
Christmas in Connecticut
Yap! Bettie Davis was a really great actress. See her in "Now Voyager" and you will know. She puts to shame 99% of the modern lady actresses. That lady had talent and she could act. She didn't need a darn music track when she walked around. Other great stars were Audrey Hepburn and of course, Miss Barbara Stanwyck. Boy, could those ladies act.

Yes, I agree fantasy stuff is dumb! As issues of the world become more intense,
and serious, I guess I need a release and a "lightening up". I need a little "silliness".
It's kind of a relaxation for the mind.
I don't think fantasy is dumb (not all of it anyway 😄 ), but I just can't seem to get very interested in it. Now some of the stuff I find relaxing on YouTube? Boy howdy, I gotta admit some of it's dumb!

I loved One Touch of Venus starring Ava Gardner and Robert Walker. I also liked Saratoga Trunk (Gary Cooper, Ingrid Bergman), Meet John Doe (Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck) and The Strawberry Blonde (James Cagney, Olivia DeHavilland). But my all time favorite is Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid (William Powell & Anne Blythe), which I have watched multiple times.

Oh yeah! ANYTHING with Barbara Stanwyck! I've never seen "The Strawberry Blonde". Have to check that out!

Has anyone mentioned "Mr. Peabody & the Mermaid"
I used to play hooky to watch that on TV. Ann Blythe & William Powell.
Yes I did Pepper. I watched it every night for a week when it showed on Million Dollar Movie. I was a little girl then and it caused me to become fascinated with mermaids. I have watched it several times as an adult as well and managed to record the colorized version to DVD.

Yes...he was great in that. The dry humor was very funny. I can't remember if I've seen him in anything else.
I love William Powell and his dry humor! He played several movies with Myrna Loy as Nick Charles in The Thin Man, After the Thin Man, Another Thin Man, etc. Sort of detective style, problem solving murders, etc. Also played in My Man Godfrey.

Love story was the first film I took my future wife to see, in 1976 I think it was, (could have been released here later?).

We thought we'd seen the greatest love story ever, but looking back I'd endorse so many of the old black and white films as being far superior in every way!

Another film you could/should describe as a love story is of course Dustin Hoffman's first big film, "The Graduate", and that has stood the test of time, with a great supporting cast, especially Anne Bancroft. :)

we can always watch reruns of Matt Dillion shooting people: since 1956-he killed the entire population of Dodge-one per week.

Oh, it really does annoy me when I can't remember the title of a film, perhaps one of you fine people will help me.

The scene...

Him and her walk out of the sea and up the beach. They are looking at each other hungrily, when he turns to the man in the van and says, "Fish and chips twice please." 😊

That was "Wuthering Heights", (no doubt about it!,:) ).
