Do you air out your house or rooms on a regular basis?

My Mom was big on airing out the house. It didn't matter what the temperature was the windows were open at least in the bedrooms once a week. She would take blankets off the bed and let them hang out the window with the pillows on top. Every once in a while she would fluff them up.

I like to air the rooms out also. We heat by electric so I can turn the heat off in a particular room and open the windows. My Mother in law did just the opposite. Nothing got opened. She claimed it brought in dampness, dust and bugs and Lord knows what, so of course the hubby hates when I open anything. Today he had a doctors appointment and then needed a few things at Walmart. I took advantage and opened the windows in our TV room. It was 28 degrees out. I'm sure I didn't bring in any dust or bugs.

I draw the line at hanging out the blankets from the bedroom windows. I'm sure the neighbors would think someone was escaping or it was some kind of distress signal.

Do you like to air out?
 

yes....i really need it now too...we are in the rv for a job in south carolina. ..i like a clothesline for large items...not one here...pillows in the sun...yeah
 

My windows are open every day, just slightly in bad weather, I’ve seen too many places get damp through condensation so I like the fresh air to circulate
 
My windows are opened every day... the bedrooms and bathrooms always even if it's raining. ..plus if it's sunny and warm the back door stays open all day long!!
 
Absolutely. I think they discovered hundreds of years ago the air out you dwelling or home was beneficial to reducing disease. Some 'experts' think we use too many sanitizing/cleaning chemicals and at times it's best to let nature do it's things including let the natural enemies take care of germs, bacteria etc. Air also gets rid of odors and any gases including the gases from man made objects, chemicals that frequently take decades to breakdown. Unless it's a smog alert or heavy pollen count I'm 'open' for business...
 
In winter before the temps dip to the 20's or lower,I'll have my bedroom windows open a bit just to get some fresh air.I tend to sleep better
Once spring&summer come, the windows in my living/dining room,kitchen are all opened.I can't wait for that to happen
 
We don't have air con and most of our windows are permanently open - kitchen, bathroom and three bedroom windows. When we are home the front and back doors are also open to the breeze.

When I change the bed sheets all of the pillows and the mattress overlay go out on the clothesline for sterilisation by the sun. If it is raining I skip this treatment until next week. There are no smokers in our house so the only smells we have to cope with arise in the kitchen and the toilet. We got rid of curtains, carpets and mats several years ago so there is not much left that absorbs the smells.

Bugs and dust do enter the house but I don't mind these minor problems.
 
I usually have one or more windows open at least a crack.

When we get a winter thaw with lots of sunshine and fresh air I open all of the windows.

I don't use air conditioning so the rest of the year they are wide open unless it is pouring down rain.
 
One window in the basement is open a crack permanently and various windows upstairs get opened. Sometimes when I’m having a hot bath with Epsom salts I’ll open the window in the bathroom. It’s so nice soaking in hot soothing water with a cool breeze coming in. The steam swirls around the room making it somewhat enchanting. Of course with scented candies.
In May I love opening the back bedroom window since we have a lilac garden full of various lilacs and the scent is intoxicating.
 
Austin air is pretty terrible, so our windows are closed about 95% of the time. In nice weather, about 15 days out of 365, we'll open them.
 
I like to open a window in every room and the front door which has a screen on top when the weather is nice. Even in winter sometimes, I'll partially open a window or two for a shorter period of time. I don't take any blankets or anything to air outside, I just wash them if needed to freshen them up.
 
When you own a woodstove it’s recommended that you leave a window open for a good exchange of air so we can’t afford not to open a window. It’s only open a crack. I’m sure some houses loose more heat through improper or insufficient insulation than a window cracked open.
 
Always have at least one window open. If it's really super cold, I still open the bathroom window a couple of inches.
