Do you believe in Karma?

What goes around comes around ?......as you sew, so shall you reap ?

Most if not all of us have probably done things in our life that we're not overly proud of, some things being worse than others......I'll admit that I have.

If there is such a thing as a 'score sheet' being kept do you believe that you have atoned for the things that you regret doing and the good that you've done in your life has offset the bad ?

Yes indeed. I don't call it Karma, but its written in scripture: (Matthew 7)

Do not judge, or you will be judged. 2For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?…

That's why that when I look into the mirror every morning, I see a flawed person, so how can I judge others and say to them, "you are wrong for your actions or beliefs" when I myself am a sinful person with flaws?

If people would remember this, then the world would be a better place.

I believe karma will come to you if you don't atone to it by acknowledging what you have done wrong first and then making up for it. You can prevent karma by realizing your wrongdoing in something and then making up for it, apologizing, doing the right thing.

As an Atheist, I don't believe in any religious "pay back". Nor do I believe that you can cancel out bad deeds by doing good ones.
What's been done can't be undone. You can become a 'reformed character' and with luck you will be accepted as such.

As for 'poetic justice', I think that if you live a life doing wrong, eventually the law, or someone else will catch up with you and you'll be punished.
It may simply be that you'll have an accident and nobody will help or have the slightest sympathy.

I believe!

I'm happy to say that I'm not the same person I was at twenty, these days I have more empathy!

noun: empathy - the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

I tend to believe in karma to a degree, thinking what goes around comes around for some people who do bad things. But, I think that a lot of people who are mean and do bad things can be very lucky in life, and never have them come back to bite. When I see a dog on the news who's been starved and beaten by the owner, I think to myself that he'll pay his dues and be paid back for that cruelty, but many times they get away with it and go on to do similar things again and again. Maybe something negative will happen to these people some day, but who's to say it was karma?

Some people with the kindest of heart will live their lives suffering one wrong after another either with their health or other things, like they have very bad luck and don't deserve it one bit.

Yes. I do believe in karma. The older I become, the more I believe it.

"the good or bad emanations felt to be generatedby someone or something:Lets get out of here. This place has bad karma."

no I do not believe in karma or fate or atonement anything else destiny wise. I am also an atheist whether it is capitalized or not, and that is my belief either accept it or not I dont care! I dont believe we are here for a specific purpose. As to any god thing here is what I believe. If there is a god and he created all of this mess and we are the only living intelligent creature than I think god is a very sadistic being to only create us and no other. Also as big as the universe is it is a hell of a waste of space! also yada yada and blah blah..lots I could say needless to say this aint the place.. wanna meet in private and argue the points??

I think what goes around comes around is just another way of saying, what you give, you get, or do unto others as you would have them do unto you. So basically it is a Biblical phrase.

Do unto others is a big part of my life and you don't have to be a believer to follow it.

The same with the 10 commandments, most decent folks follow most of them whether believers or not.

There was a piece in the news today that indicates that this person...at least...got what she probably deserved. It appears that she was stealing donated clothes from a donation bin, and her stool broke, and her arm got caught in the donation box, where she dangled for hours before finally dying.

I'm an Atheist also. So, the concept of karma is hard for me to grasp. Maybe it's the "sow shall you reap" concept. If you're a SOB people will treat you like a SOB?
I think your inner thoughts come to be written on your face. A kindly person will exude goodwill and will most likely receive it back. In my mother's case she was a jolly and generous person as her default and in her dotage, even though she had dementia and could be rather difficult, she received nothing but generous kindness from her carers. Is karma just a word for this kind of thing?
