Do you believe that people show up in your life when they are needed

So my friends passed away in their sixties in 2015. Since then I have met only one nice lady whom I used to work with and she is still working. She is 65 and I'm 69. I retired at 67. But we never go anywhere together except for lunch near the work place. And even when she retires in the next year or so, we will never get together as we live too far away from each other.

Anyways since then I have tried the Seniors Centre, volunteering and taking art classes. Maybe it's me, I keep meeting people whose beliefs are different from mine. For example, I met women who were quite nice, but hated men. I also met women who were against getting the covid shot and I was all for it. To each his own point of view, but it doesn't mean that I want to hang around with you.

Also I mentioned in another post that there were ladies that were totally into their grand children, which I really get, but I don't have children or grand children, so I need more to chat about than just the kids, grand kids and everything that revolves around them.

My hubby and I both say that we used to love people and be so sociable, but now that is not the case at all. Maybe, we are the original "grumpy old men or grumpy old women". Anyways, my only lady friend told me that she believes that people show up in your life when needed. The thing is, I have been waiting ten years, where are they?

Some people believe that everyone who enters our lives does so for a reason. I wouldn't go that far but I do believe in certain situations people will up when you need them most. They're like angels.
I certainly hope so, I love the idea of an angel looking out for me and my family.

No I don't believe they do necessarily.. not in my experience anyway

I have to agree tho' with you, in regard to people.. I used to be a real people person... not now.. people really have changed a lot...

I have heard it said that prior acquaintances will show up in your life if you have “unfinished business” with them. Then there’s the classic expression that “When the student is ready, the master will appear.

There has been a great migration of people to the internet. Now, with smartphones, and mass media powered by sophisticated AI we are able to share our lives quickly with people we connect with online. We have friends from all over the world, and can share photos, and short videos of our experiences. It can be quite personal.

People have to have something in common that brings them together in spite of themselves.

School is the first common experience. Workplace is another.

As we age, we come to realize that we really never had anything in common. Just circumstances that we needed someone to help us make sense of.

As we age, we begin the process of letting go in preparation for our eventual passing away.

I heard a phrase and i believe in it.....
"people who come into your life are either a lesson or a blessing......"

since embracing this idea I see it more clearly....
for example recently took job in a small office and chat with co-worker there often ........we come from different backgrounds and I think we both have shown each other different views or insights that we may not have considered.... Common right?
except.....
when i was thinking of going back to work in September (have a few years left until retirement) ...... i was not putting in solid effort in job hunting nothing looked like a good fit but I knew that i wanted someone to engage my mind in conversation ........(the group in neighborhood was not cutting it...) especially certain subjects and ideas...

I got a call from a recruiter to send me on interview on a Thursday ... started the next Tuesday ...... we clicked shared many thoughts and past experience ....... and the ideas have made me feel better about a few situations or challenges in my life.... almost like a therapy.

I have other instances like the above that convinced me years ago...i also listen closer to each person i am hanging around to hear or see what nugget of truth / inspiration/ or idea i need.

No I don’t look at it that way. People show up when they do just as it is with me. If our paths cross and we notice each other that is fine. But there is no reason to wait around for someone to show up. The planet is full our kind. Maybe the ones we’d like to have show up are being held up by the billions of others out and about?

They do not always show up when or where you would like them to.... no one is on call ..... but in my world i see them now.....
i missed great opportunities before for not recognizing and appreciating it.
when those who do not see it they mistakenly act like literally every person you walk by on street........... Nope the person who is there for a reason you have real contact with....not always pleasant either.
You can learn from experience or repeat it later with someone else....

I don't believe that people are "put" into our lives for any particular reason. It's just random. Think about it. In the course of one week, you probably encounter hundreds of other people, one way or another, unless you are a hermit. Think of all your friends and relatives, the neighbors, people you encounter at stores, places of business, medical offices and waiting rooms, theaters, restaurants, and so on. Are they all put there to fulfill some grand scheme?

Of course not. Though just by chance, some of them may turn out to be great romantic or lifetime partners, people who happen to have a job opening that is perfect for you, and so on. Or just someone who would be a great friend.

Also, just by chance you might encounter someone who would ruin your life and create tragedy for you. No one has plotted to put them there at that time. It just happens.

Think about all the possibilities if only 10 people happen to "come into each other's lives" at a given moment. If you do the math, there are probably thousands of possibilities of good or bad things happening as a result. But our human minds love fairy tale explanations for things that just happen, so we create a scenario where something was "meant" to happen.

A nice sentiment, but what if I needed a car tire changed or plumbing done and can't find a 'handy andy' right away? ;)
lol..well just mention it..and I'll catch a flight ... I'll be there in the mornin'...:D

..but seriously I know what you mean, being on my own now again I'm in the same position. Fortunately we now have the Neighbourhood App where there's tradesman and people who can vouch for them or not.. and that's a lot better than the past ...

...but aside from that if anyone here lives close to anyone else on here and can help with anything.. then I'm sure we would..I know I would ...
