It all depends. If I fish out of the fresh water river and lakes in my area, I use either a general purpose casting reel, or a spin casting reel. As for rods, again it all depends if I am on a boat or fishing from the shore. I have fly rods, casting rods and trolling rods. I use different rods for different types of fishing. Different lengths also.
When we go to Florida and fish out of the Gulf in saltwater, it’s the same thing. Fishing from the shoreline, fishing off the boat near the shoreline, or going deep sea fishing. Depending on where or what I am fishing for will decide what equipment I will use.
A few years ago, I started fishing out near the middle grounds where the big fish, or trophy fish hang out. I bought an electric reel, which really helps me reeling in my line if I fish below 300 or more feet. Using lithium batteries hold up longer. I have used several different brands of rods and reels over the year.
If my house hadn’t burned to the ground about 15 years ago, I had some great pictures I could have shown. That probably hurt the worse for my wife and me. We could replace most everything we lost, except our pictures of the kids growing up, our vacations and too many memories went up in fire.
Check this out.

Amazing, right? It’s not real. Taken at Universal in Orlando.
