As a non-Christian, I have mixed feelings. I love the gorgeous Christmas music (the traditional carols, Handel's Messiah, etc.) and can't stand the junk they play incessantly in the stores for a month or more. I love the greenery, the delicious aroma of fresh-cut evergreens, the twinkling lights. And I am delighted that my family has cut way down on buying unneeded presents. (We donate to charity instead.)
I've always thought it interesting that the most popular Christmas stories, performances, etc. have absolutely nothing to do with Jesus. The ones that come to mind are The Nutcracker (about a party and a little girl's dream, and some great dancing); A Christmas Carol (about Scrooge finally turning into a decent human being thanks to a scary dream); all the corny movies which may be about Christmas, but are never about Jesus. So it's not really a religious holiday, at least not for most Americans. It's kind of a celebration of beauty and good will.
