Do you dislike Christmas? Why? Pls share.

As a non-Christian, I have mixed feelings. I love the gorgeous Christmas music (the traditional carols, Handel's Messiah, etc.) and can't stand the junk they play incessantly in the stores for a month or more. I love the greenery, the delicious aroma of fresh-cut evergreens, the twinkling lights. And I am delighted that my family has cut way down on buying unneeded presents. (We donate to charity instead.)

I've always thought it interesting that the most popular Christmas stories, performances, etc. have absolutely nothing to do with Jesus. The ones that come to mind are The Nutcracker (about a party and a little girl's dream, and some great dancing); A Christmas Carol (about Scrooge finally turning into a decent human being thanks to a scary dream); all the corny movies which may be about Christmas, but are never about Jesus. So it's not really a religious holiday, at least not for most Americans. It's kind of a celebration of beauty and good will.

For those of us with a good command over the English language that wish there could be more than merely giving someone money or a gift card, is doing so with a short well wishing hand written thus personal, poem or encouraging statement for happiness. For those non-poets of the universe, despair not in this computer era. With a quick web search, one will find a whole industry of listings of verbal happiness along with accompanying images and animations.

So yes, some definite issues with the Christmas season as it exists today. But for those that CAN, don't necessarily throw the baby out for the bath water.

Christmas has an array of colorful special art forms and experiential emotional enjoyments across all our senses, for those that seek out its wonders within its rich history. An annual community and family season of ceremonies warmly experiencing and focusing on yearly human production, live experiences, and success, of many things reflecting some of the best natures within humans.

Sure I am supposed to put together all the expensive shit.
Sure I am supposed to clean up all the stuff laying on the floor.
Sure I will put up the tree and take it down and store it! Sure I love the wonderful Season of giving of myself! ... :ROFLMAO: ...
Have all of you planned to have a very merry Xmas, knowing what's ahead too!

I used to love Christmas. I loved it as a child and I loved it when I had my own family. I loved all of the running around, the gift buying, the cleaning and decorating of my home. I baked and cooked delicious treats . I loved the music and special movies. I loved going to midnight mass. I loved staying up all night on Christmas Eve to put toys together for my children and then being awakened at the crack of dawn by 2 excited kids. My husband hated it all.

About 5 years ago, he told me just how much he hates Christmas… and he said that it was all because of me. He hurt me to the core telling me how I ruined his Holiday every year.
I’ve never celebrated again . I try not to think about it. I do buy gifts for my children and celebrate with them a bit but at my home I treat Christmas as if it were any other day. I no longer decorate my home. I don’t bake or cook anything special. No presents for my husband. Is just another day. I hope ge’s happy now.
Do your happy thing, forget his scorn, move on sweet thing. I have no clue about your past but go on happy into your future.

When the kids were at home Christmas was a big deal.

My daughter is a Christmas Nazi and the house had to be setup like an Eatons store for her. It got worse as she got older.

I started to get sick of the glamorous decorations by the time the kids were teenagers- as each year came I started to despise getting out the once cherished HUGE flocked Pine Tree from "The Bay" out of the garage and setting up this monstrosity - while it looked like it was straight out of a magazine, it truly was so beautiful - it was SO BIG that storing it every year was a nightmare- it was an umbrella tree so the box was the size of a coffin- plus, I was always scared spiders would have set up camp in the branches over the year! And those branches would scratch me up if I wasn't careful! Frigging tree!!

One year I decided I would skip the tree and do something different! So, while the kids were at school, I decided to go to Canadian tire for 3 small pre-lit trees that I set up in a nice display, hoping this would suffice in place of Mr. nightmare.

I decorated the entire house making sure to pay extra attention to the banister, as my daughter loved the banister decor...well- while she loved the decorations she freaked that I dare attempt to replace our tree with the 3 smaller ones!

UGH...I had to set that frigging thing up yet again!!!

So, while we enjoy the spirit of Christmas I do not miss turning my house into a Christmas Village, well...not really, maybe just a bit!

Now, my daughter does that - this year she sent me a video of her about to embark on turning her home into a winter wonderland leaving her dog wondering what the fu<k is going on!!

Us, we put up a tiny tree just because, and enjoy the beautiful European Christmas markets- they are amazing!

I donated Mr. Flocked Pine and wonder if he charmed his big a$$ into some other young family's home with his thick snowy branches and towering height and is still being set up each year, as he was indestructible- trust me 😉

For those that still love the season, enjoy it! And for those who don't... well, that's what makes getting older great- you don't have to! You can grinch it if you want and if you still have to participate in family gatherings and such- that's what vacations are for! Maybe it's time for you to do what you want - send the greetings and gifts and go!

I don't "dislike" Christmas(or Thanksgiving) but the warm feelings and happiness went away because of having to fight the EX over visitation that she was unwilling to share, despite being court ordered, even on my agreed to visitation times. She used the kids as a weapon, as adults they want nothing to do with holidays either.
How annoying- there's a little something called karma- maybe Santa will bring her some for Christmas.

Christmas (and all holidays) used to be a good excuse to get good and drunk. My body can no longer tolerate alcohol, so I don't look forward to holidays any more. It was one of the few pleasures I had in my life, so naturally, it was taken away.

My inability to tolerate alcohol is probably nature's way of telling me that I was going to destroy my liver if I kept it up. I just wish there was something that could take its place.
Gummies? You know, laced.

I asked my daughter if my grandsons got their gifts from me, bc I got emails from the vendors that they'd been delivered, but no acknowledgement. from the kids (Kids! They are both in their 20s!). I told her not to tell them they have to thank me, but of course I almost immediately got a thank you text from the older one who lives in Tennessee. I just know it was her doing. She has told me several times that if they don't thank me I shouldn't buy them anything, but of course I never listen to that.

I don't mind Christmas. The only thing I miss is cooking Christmas dinner for my little family. Never cared for all the rest. Don't want gifts and don't give any. Quit decorating too. It's nice to see neighbors outdoor displays though. I think it's okay to do what you want with Christmas. Growing up, it was always stress free at our house. We put up a tree on Christmas Eve and us kids decorated it. We'd go to church on Christmas Day, then had a nice dinner and that was it.

I miss a simpler Christmas. We did the same. Put up a tree Christmas week. Some baubles and tinsel were it. Some of those big bulb multi colored lights. Dinner and a few presents.

I do not like Christmas but that is because we have no relatives living here now. Anyway, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas that I encounter during this time with a smile. I do like our neighbors with their display of lights and clever decorations at their houses.

Don't like CHristmas at all. Don't like the phoniness of gift giving, the over abundance of food, the having to go out and spend money on things somebody already has and doesn't use/want. In other words, don't like conspicuous consumption.

My type of giving is to work for another employee on that day so she could have it with her kids, to give Hats to the Homeless in DC all years to volunteer at my local shelter on that day, and to be on call with the vetrinarian nights all year to help care for the after hours 'hit bys'.

Not only did all that work for the people who were on the recieving end, but it also made me feel good, which is a win-win. I cant imaagine my life any other way.

I prompted an Anti-Christmas song in an AI song generator. It's an easy listening song with lyrics about calm and peace without the Christmas rush. For those not celebrating the Christmas rush, I hope you find it fun. Or you could create your own song for the day.

Anti-Christmas Serenade | Suno

No. I think we have few real traditions and Christmas is a lovely time of year, especially if you have children in the family. I have good memories of family Christmases and, I hope today's children are making good memories which, one day, they can look back on.
