Do you feel younger or older than your age?

I exercise every day and am active. Until a year ago, I was never stiff if I sat for an hour before I got up. Now I am if I’ve sat for a couple hours I’m a little slow to get up and my back hurts.

A friend came over that is turning 80 this year and we sat for three hours and talked and when she went to get up, she had some difficulty. She also was very active playing pickle ball, walking, and swimming.Then I started to get up and although it was easier for me, I thought to myself that’s my future if I’m still alive in eight more years.

I also don’t have the stamina that I used to. If I’m home in the afternoon, I often get really tired and some days I take a nap. I never used to nap. In the past five months, I have lost three people that were extremely close to me so maybe some of the fatigue is depression.

A week ago I found out that a friend of mine who was not sick, extremely active, etc. died of a heart attack. She went to the doctor regularly and didn’t have any idea she had a heart problem. She lived in Texas and we had been emailing each other daily for the past 18 years ever since I rescued a dog where she was the foster mom. During the 18 years, I went three times in person to visit her and brought the dog with me so she could get to see her.
 
Physically I don't think I ever feel older than I am, but there are days I do feel like my age. I would say more often than not I feel younger than my age especially when I compare myself to the rest of the folks my age.

Mentally I sometimes feel my age and sometimes feel younger.

Personality wise I never feel my age and feel I'm much more open and less set in my ways than a lot of the folks I know around my age and even ten years younger than me.

Well today I have aches all over. Plan to rest cause it looks like a rainy day ahead.....so time to chill & catch up on Netflix & Prime. Have a fantastic day everyone 😀 😊 🤗
 
My body is beat to hell so in that regard I know I'm older, metally I don't feel much different than when I was in my thirties and forties.

Seeing myself in a full length mirror or a photo is when the reality of my age smacks me in the face. Where there once was a virile man now stands a worn out husk.

Likewise!

I was okay till I had Covid in October 2021. Since then I've never had the strength, stamina, or energy that I had before. I'm now 75, but due to the PMR (PolyMyalgia Rheumatica) I've gone downhill quite rapidly since 2021. So do I feel older or younger than my age? Older physically, but still young at heart and in my head I'm still the naive teenager I was 60 years ago.

You don't have to tell me twice about eating all that ice cream! I can't keep a 48 ounce container of ice cream in the house for more than 24 hours. So to protect myself from myself, I rarely buy that size container anymore. Ice cream is my favorite food ever.
 
Right this moment I'm going out into the street to meet a Rita Hayworth lookalike, we're going to do a rumba duet in and out of people's driveways, around lamposts, over the tops of cars, then back for a cup of tea..... carry on with what you were doing, I haven't woke up yet. 😊
 
It surprises me how many people reach a certain age and then start behaving as though they are old and decrepit. They also expect younger people to do things for them even though they are still perfectly capable of doing everything themselves. Perhaps age gives lazy people an excuse to depend on others.
Answering the question, I'm still physically and mentally fit even though I'm not far off 80. I appreciate that not everyone is as fortunate as me, but I still have to remind people just how old I am. I know I walk like an old person but mentally, I hope I seem younger.

Yeah, I get that.

But it's also trips to the doctor. I had to make another appointment today. I haven't been ill for decades, and now I need to see the doctor. It's humbling. Inevitable, perhaps. Still........
