Do you keep junk in your car?

I've been watching some Youtube videos over the last few weeks of the US police stopping drivers for whatever reason.

Might be drugs, might be drink, might be speeding, might even be like the one I'm watching right now, which is a hi-jacked car with a baby in the back seat...

The thing that every single one of these cars have in common is that you can't see the floor for rubbish... It's just incredible..Just filth and garbage...strewn all over the floor, and in some cases even on the floor of the driver making an accident inevitable if something gets lodged under the pedals...

How about you, do you keep junk in your car...not necessarily as extreme as those ..

I use to. A lot. The passenger side floor board, had soda cans, wrappers, papers, galore. The back seat floor wasn't much better. I cleaned it up thoroughly about once every 3 months. Now, we have very clean cars on the inside, we don't wash the exteriors, until we just got a VW Passat. I wonder if we are going to wash it?

yes this is precisely the stuff I'm seeing in these cars...soda cans.. litter , old shoes, old take-out packets, cigarette packets.. terrible junk, piled at least a foot high in the back seat floor and in the passengers side mainly.. and the door pockets full of crap.. like they use the car like a Trash can..

My car has no rubbish in it whatsoever..

All that's in the body of my car is a Hat, and a cushion...on the back seat..

the tools like many of you, are in the Boot.. in a box made for them.. like this one..

I use the "way back" of my Jeep for hauling the dog.
Why my toolbox is in the backseat floor board.

Yes, I have something similar in my trunk and snow scrapers, of course. It's not a pile of junk though. It is necessary stuff. I throw the junk away. Not all Americans are filthy.

We used to keep medical supplies in one gloves compartment, maps an proof of ownership in the other. However since we are rarely in the car now what ever our son wants is in the compartments.
In my glove compartment I have the locking wheel nut spanner... the service book, some air fresheners. and masks.. and hand gel and some salt sachets for take -aways ..... also gloves.

One time when I took the car for it's annual MOT.. the mechanic doing the work said that in all his years of working on cars he'd never actually seen someone keep actual gloves in there...:ROFLMAO:

I a!ways wondered if the people that have a lot of trash in their cars also have there home in a similar condition. My cars never have trash in them. We are neat and tidy in both our cars and home.
yes that's a point ...I hadn't thought of it, but yes it could possibly just be an extension of their homes

No definitely not junk..I'm talking about rubbish/trash/ garbage all over the inside of the car
Of course. I was just being snarky -- sorry if that wasn't evident. There is a Youtube channel called "Just Rolled In" which features videos from auto mechanics who are asked to do some unbelievably stupid things -- and many of those stupid things involve cars that can't even be entered due to the trash, vermin, mouse droppings. In such cases, many of these mechanics refuse to work on the cars until they're cleaned up.

I don't think I should look at those videos it might set off some OCD in me :ROFLMAO:

I will have to honestly admit that my car could be neater.

It doesn't look like a Hoarders episode, but there is a roll of paper towels, a poncho, a box of tissues, 3 paperbacks, several ball caps, a sweatshirt jacket, umbrellas galore, a center console compartment that just might have Jimmy Hoffa hiding under a few years worth of unused fast-food napkins which I collect compulsively because " you just never know when you might need them", a cane, a few pairs of sunglasses and dollar tree reading glasses because I might want to read one of those paperbacks one day while I'm waiting on a train or something.

I don't even want to think about what's pushed to the back of the trunk but I do know there's a beach chair, a ground blanket, more umbrellas (I really need to start going to my Umbrellas Unanimous meetings again), a couple more jackets, a hiking pole (just in case I get the urge to park and hike somewhere, of course, of course).

My glove box? Everything but gloves, I'm sure, but otherwise it's the Black Hole of Calcutta.

There's a fortune in coins and ball point pens under the seats that I can't get to. A "small" fortune, at least.

There are also a couple of CDs in their cases tucked behind my sun visor that I keep forgetting about, which fly out and clip me when I put the visors down. No, I'm not a fast learner....

Some of them go waaaaay beyond just trash. Cars rotted out from rust (literally broken in half), brakes that don't work any more they're so worn, tires that are COMPLETELY GONE. I mean, not even on the car anymore -- just the wheel. And some of these owner morons "refuse" to correct the issues as identified by the mechanics.

This is an overall weakness in the U.S. system. Each state has its own requirements to register a motor vehicle. Some states have pretty rigid inspection requirements (NY is one) and other states like mine (Arkansas) don't have an inspection requirement at all.

Might want to check with Jimmy and see if he needs a bathroom break. I'm sure it's been awhile. :p

In the Uk we have very strict vehicle regulations. There's no way any car would be allowed on the road in the conditions you describe..

Every 12 months it has to pass it's MOT..unless it's under 3 years old..

The MOT is very comprehensive... even if t fails on one thing you're not allowed to drive it away from the MOT centre, yu have to get it repaired..or fixed..

It's against the law to have an expired MOT.. and if you do drive with an expired MOT then your Car insurance becomes immediately null and void, which means you're not going to get covered if someone else hits you.. or you hit them..

All these details of car Insurance and Mot & Tax, are logged with the DVLA.. so are immediate;y available to the police by checking the car's registration, so they don't even have to stop you and ask for your papers to know that it's either expired or is covered..

This is what the MOT inspectors in the garage check are working properly, during the MOT test every 12 months..

If small things are looking a little worn but not actually worn out or broken we get an advisory with the Pass. so we need to get those things fixed ASAP but the car is deemed safe to drive..

Inside the car, there’s a container that holds Kleenex, my car sunglasses, and a small garbage bag. A few things like a water bottle, sunscreen, etc in the doors. In the trunk there are tools, emergency supplies and numerous bags for groceries. We don’t leave anything visible in the car when we’re away from home.

One winter we had reservations for three days in Scottsdale, Arizona. That’s an upscale city. After we were checked in, the gal next to us pulled in with her VW bug absolutely full to the roof with empty takeout containers and whatever. Things would fall out when she opened the door; she’d shove them back in. Let’s just say strange things went on all night there. We checked out the next day.
