Do you keep your doors locked day and night? Home, Vehicle.

I also grew up Rural. That said you leave oneself / family as easy prey to dishonesty.
I leave my door open now when I am inspecting guests or My Lil Woman / grandchild's + Moms and Pops.
One nowadays can't even trust a neighbor more than once.

We actually have a couple sets of Handcuffs 2 !

A note on locked doors...rescue squad tones go off for my team. Person screaming in pain to dispatcher. Got the addy and were about a mile away. Arrived on scene and all the doors were locked. No way in so my team mate got down and I stood on his back, opened th window and ran to the door, quickly returning to the patient. Loaded patient and headed for hospital. En route me and my team were honorary 'aunties and uncle' to a beautiful baby girl.

We hadn’t lived in this big old house very long in the mid seventies and my kids were very young yet.
I was down in the basement working on something and my wife yelled down that she was going to pick up the kids a few blocks away.
A few minutes later I heard footsteps on the floor above me and coming through the front hallway into the house and I ran upstairs to see what she forgot that made her return.
It wasn’t my wife but some strange guy and he looked like a salesman.
When I met him nearly face to face I had a cresent wrench in my hand and I asked him in kind of a stern voice “ What do you want?”
Right away he started backing towards the door but he said “ I thought that I heard someone say come in, I guess I made a mistake.”
I was pretty angry by that time and I said “I guess you did.”
As he practically ran back out the door.
I think both of us thought that I might use that wrench on his head if he didn’t leave quickly.

Yeah! We lock all of our doors except if we are in the back yard and can see the back door.
We watch a lot of murder shows and a lot of them start out —— It happened in a small town about like the one you live in where nobody locks their doors until now.
We are way ahead of

I lock my house doors at night, if I’m away, or napping. If present and awake, the doors are unlocked as the cats go in and out numerous times each day.

My vehicles are locked in parking lots, but unlocked at home as they’re kept in a garage in a fairly safe neighborhood…

When I was living at my co opt apt building, I kept my apt door locked, but didin;t feel safe there.
A few yrs ago one of the maintenance men robbed a few residents when he came into their apts to fix things, took it up on himself to steal personal items,he was arrested and spent time in jail
I feel a lot safer living here at Canterbury Woods due to the fact the building is locked down every night at 8pm reopens at 8am.The only way to get in building is using your fob

I think it depends on area someone lives .
I know that in past few year the decline and desperate people in surrounding area have reinforced the habit to lock things up.

I do keep my doors locked at night and daytime if I am going to town or anywhere distant. If I am walking Harper for a km. or two I don't. I can see my house for most of that time.
I have had several occasions where people have come to the hours at odd hours and I don't know if any of them would have just walked in or not but I'd rather not offer the opportunity.
One winter night, years ago I had a group of kids knock on the door about midnight. They had put their car in the ditch. I confirmed everyone was okay, and that they weren't drunk, I got the truck and pulled them out. No point getting a drunk driver out to let him go kill someone down the road.
The next day, one of the girls and her mother came by and thanked me with a fresh baked pie.

Have double locks in my apartment (hallway) door. The deadbolt rarely gets locked, even at night.
The other one is accessible by the Apt. Management, and one daughter has a key too… so I 100% of the time lock that one at night…. don’t usually during the day though.

The back door to my private outside patio is wide open at night (3rd floor) when temps get cool enough to get a breeze coming thru.
Lil'Bear likes Fall weather when he can sleep on his bed out there.

No car worries anymore ….. my car is now my Granddaughter’s responsibility. She seems to be doing just fine with it.

Usually lock the house at night, and if I'm going to be away more than an hour or two.
The vehicles get locked in town, but not normally locked at home.
I live in the boonies, and if someone needs a car, I don't want them coming into the house to get the keys.
My dogs will let me know something is up and I'm a light sleeper.
