Do you remember...Hats?

Do you eat stripers? I think they can be fun to catch, but eating not so much.

Nice hat, I have one like it and try to force myself to wear it in the sun.
They are fun to catch, I have eaten some of the larger ones I've caught, but mostly we just catch & release. This is at Lake Silverwood, the website cautions to limit eating the stripers, due to having levels of mercury and other toxins...fishadvisorysilverwoodlakefact2021.pdf

Do you remember when men routinely wore hats, those relics of a dressier age? What memories do you have of them?
I recall the famous picture of Jack Ruby shooting Oswald. The grim stunned man on the left, had a hat like my father did. For years we held onto it, but finally gave it away.

Yes, it was a Stetson, but it was sold for $60 online. I told the charity to take nothing less than $50 for it.

There was a time when a man, to be considered fully dressed, wouldn't venture outside without wearing a hat. Now I'm not talking ball caps, or worse yet, ball caps worn backwards; I'm talking real hats of recognizable style. Watch old black-and-white movies, and you'll see men wearing them. Watch old newsreels, and you'll find a sea of hats wherever a crowd of men are depicted. My father wore a hat going to or returning from work every day, even in summer heat. It was expected, and was part of the male uniform of the day. Even boys wore caps. Can you imagine Indiana Jones without his rakish fedora? I don't think so...

Remember them very well Fyrefox, the first thing my Daddy did when he woke up in the morning was to put on his old trusted black fedora, that was if it was his day off work. On work days he wore a different hat he was a Police Officer for most of my life and proudly wore that hat for more than 32 years of his life. He was my HERO and I wanted to be just like him so, after serving my country for 4 years in the US Air Force I returned to my South Carolina home and waited the 3 months and 17 days until I turned 21 YOA. I then applied for was offered and accepted the position as Police Chief in a small town in S.C.

At that time I was the youngest Police Chief in my home state. I moved around to several different towns were I was the Police Chief there, until 1979 I applied for and was hired as a Deputy Sheriff in Beaufort County S.C. I served several positions there, including as a Detective for more than 15 years. I attained the rank of Administrative Lieutenant in a department that had of course a Sheriff a Captain who was the Chief Deputy, and 3 Lt's. One Lt. was the supervisor of the Northern division consisting of the town of Beaufort, S.C. Ladys Island, Warsaw and Fripp Islands, and Sheldon S. C. The other Lt. supervised the Southern division consisting of the town of Blufton, S.C. The town of Hilton Head Island, S.C. and all surrounding areas.

Those were the best years of my Law Enforcement life. I attended some of the finest schools both in state and out of state available in my profession. I retired in 2008 after devoting more than 42 years of my life to a job I truly loved.

Well the women dressed nice too. I'm a slob in comparison. But you would never catch me dead doing something like this...

Nor I! 😬
Yes, it's all about the hat around these parts ..;)
Joking aside, I adore hats 🎩 both on men and women 👒. It was an accessory that spoke of style and class. Not as many people wear them now but I still love them.

I can't remember a time that my dad didn't wear a hat (Fedora) in his case. He had a good one for Church and an older style to wear to work. He was a very tidy man and the men at work used to laugh at him because he polished his work boots. He was a Boilermaker by trade and worked on the railways., even wore a tie to work .

I always hated wearing a hat to church on Sundays in the 50's and 60's. I always felt like it was a competition with the ladies. I always wore the same hat but some women had a new hat every week. I was so glad when women started to wear lovely black lace scarfs, like they did in the Italian churches, now I'm glad women don't wear any.

I can’t remember wearing or even having any hat for Sunday School or church but there certainly were some lovely looking hats that women wore.

When I left home I did start wearing hats which was about 16. Overalls with a cap, a sun hat with shorts or a skirt, and later it morphed into the Sherlock Holmes looking hats.

I hat plenty of hats which I loved but one day they all disappeared along with most of my other stuff

When I was little .. up to about age 10 - I wore a hat to church on Sundays. Mom wore hats in the 50's and
into the 60's, until they went out of fashion.

The only hats I wore in early adulthood, were knitted winter hats (toques), but they don't stay properly on
my head, because my hair is too smooth/thick. My head rarely gets cold in winter anyway.

I wear a Straw Hat when i go walking in fields and at side of water to keep Gnats off me ,also in the garden , only time I dont is if i go to Town , I wear a rain hat in rain rather than use a Brolly.
I like wearing a hat

When I played in a show band this about exactly what I wore. :)
