Do you think men are more effeminate?

Remember men with deep voices like Gregory Peck? Stature like Monte Wooley? Articulate demeanor like Herbert Marshall? Men who walk tall, stand behind their words, have their own style and their own moral code? I grew up in Montana where men were men, and my late husband was a man's man; rugged and strong inside. But, now, Am I wrong? As a whole, they seem to come pretty close to flying around the room. Do you think women are more masculine? Is that it? I'm interested in your opinion.

It may be that men are now allowed to show their true natures. In the past, some of the fashions for men have been very feminine. Think of the cavaliers with their lace and frills, Regency days with their 'fops and dandys'. During the sixties 'Teddy boys' were always fussing over their appearance, so it's nothing new.
The differences between the genders are not well-defined. What bothers me is how many men think it's macho to be violent, as though men who are kind and sensitive are somehow less masculine.

Some women are more masculine, but it's individual - not women in general. I asked my girlfriend (pictured below) but she said not to bother her while she's working out, & I know better than to argue with her:

I can't stand men like that. I consider them ignorant jerks. In my 20's, I knew a guy who was always trying to fix other guys up with women & if they didn't try to get them in bed on their first date, he'd call them "wussies."

This depends where you live and associate with. It could be totally different on another continent. In US because of the widespread feminist influence in culture and education (much greater than the media reports) so many men are affected, married and single without even knowing it. This is a major cultural change...I would not call it effeminate rather a programmed sensitivity among younger guys to femaleish attitudes, agendas, rights desires. Montana and Wyoming or Idaho are not mainstream--because of the land, I think. serious feminists discourage very masculine guy types. Notice that often women prefer softer, prettier faces in men. Brad Pitt, Keith Urban, Justin Timberlake.

I don't really think that men are more effeminate than in the olden days, times have just changed and they're not forced into the hard outward appearance and behavior these days. Nothing wrong with a man acting normal, it's okay to show emotions and they don't have to dress in a particular way or keep their hair short.

Keep in mind, many of the vintage manly actors who were heartthrobs were not that way in their real life, it was just a show. Many of us didn't know how feminine they were until years later.

I've never been a girly girl either, don't like jewelry or painted nails, dress a lot casually in men's clothes, jeans, tee shirts, cargo pants. Worked my entire life in blue collar male dominated jobs and did equal work for equal pay, etc. I'm still very much a woman, and happily married over forty years.

I can't recall any issues with "gender identity", until just the past few years. The most recent event that had me shaking my head was watching the Oscars Red Carpet show this past weekend. I turned it on, and saw a male "host" who was dressed in a fluffy blouse with a long flowery skirt. At first, I thought it was a lady, until "he" began to speak. I watched this buffoon for about 5 minutes, then quickly found something else to watch.

love men who are strong minded but with a gentle side ' but I think men are softer today -reason being life
is easier for the young ones than it ever was ..
I agree with toffee and because the men are softer I've also noticed that women are more inclined to get out the tool box and fix things themselves. My daughter is very feminine but she has her own power tools and tool box .

I asked for a tool box for Christmas one year and since retiring I enjoy repairing the little things around the house. My Mom would have had no idea what to do with a screw driver, that was mans work, so I think the change was slowly happening as far back as the 70's which was when I got married.

I grew up around all blue collar men. The hubby and my son in law are white collar, that may have something to do with it.

John Wayne was a movie hero, as a fictional character in his movies, he was known for his two fisted responses to situations. Marion Mitchell Morrison, John Wayne's real name, was a real movie actor. Morrison was not noted for violence of any kind. I think if you want "he-men" types, you can find them in fiction, and on the movie screen. Being a "man" has nothing to do with height, voice, physical strength, nor stance.

have to say that john wayne was bi-sexual like many of the film stars !

u want to find manly man, find males that work: ranchers, farmers, no 8 hour days for these guys. There made out of wang weather, men that sweat... riding in a pickup with three guy in the cab after a days wok is favorable! No girly boys here
You won't find them on working on state highway crews where the peak
profession is leaning on a shovel

Even your ranchers & farmers, can't dig all day, or even eight hours straight. It is unreasonable to suggest otherwise.
