I don’t believe emotions can be turned off and on at will when needed either. If that were the case, then everyone in the world would be in perfect harmonious bliss all the time and that’s clearly not the case."She didn’t say men need be kind and sensitive 24/7! "
I do not believe it is easily turned on or off ! A man,[heck anybody] is what he is [they are] mostly by nature . Yeah sure a person can have temper "flares" but IMO, that is temporary. Again opinion but....I also believe that is why combat soldiers sometimes have a hard time [dialing it back] . They live as an aggressor for 1-2 however many years......and being praised for doing so......then suddenly they are expected to behave in an entirely different manner.
As I said, it takes a hard man [men] to win a boots on the ground/face to face war..........jmo.
To be brutally honest , I don’t know how you guys do it. If I were forced to go to war, I’d probably make sure I was killed so I wouldn’t have to kill others.
I’m friends with a woman who councils victims of war, most being men who have been brutally traumatized. She often has to deal with their suicides and other self sabotaging behaviour.
Clearly human beings can’t just switch off their feelings. I’m a prime example of that. I suffer from P.T.S.D., and it’s not an easy thing to deal with. I don’t think anyone expects instant normal behaviour from solders after coming from a war zone.
It’s too bad war heroes couldn’t wear a certain colour or something to differentiate them from others. Perhaps others could learn to treat these people with more kindness and compassion considering the hardships they have endured.
I’m not claiming to have an answer to all this rpg.
Like yourself, I’m just expressing my opinion.
My grandfather, whom I never met, was a POW for over 5 years. Apparently he was never the same when he came back. It’s something that’s haunted my mom ever since.
