Do you wash dishes as you go or leave the pile for later.

When I was young and single I used to pile used dishes in the sink until I ran out of plates or cutlery then I would wash them all.

Now I am old and once again single I wash everything in the sink after I have eaten I never leave things overnight because I am going to need them in the morning. Basically I use the same bowl, mug , plate, knife, fork, spoon every day, I just take them straight from the drying rack.

If I'm cooking/baking that requires bowls, pans, etc. etc., I clean up as I go along..
If I'm simply zapping something in the microwave, I usually stash the plate/utensil in the refrigerator afterward til I have time to wash them. Weird habit, but a clean one! lol

I have a dishwasher, but have never used it. I don't see the purpose- a waste of time, water, electricity.

I put them in the dishwasher. It’s far more efficient in the use of water than my hand washing.

I hand wash some items that should not be put in the dishwasher, or that I only have one of and may need again before I run the dishwasher. I pile them in the sink and wash them when the pile gets too big or at least once a day, whichever occurs first. There aren’t many handwash items, so the pile is usally not that big.

I’m pretty sure my procedure reduces the amount of hot water consumed for washing dishes by at least 50%. Given the utility rates are going up in my area (another 12% as of January 1), it helps.
