I just have to laugh ..... I've seen 2 doctors in the last couple months ....and they Both googled things on their phone when I asked
them questions ! Times are sure changing ! LOL

I see my doctor looking through his big thick medical books sometimes but I'd much rather have him do that than make a mistake......when they start looking at 'YouTube-How To' videos while performing surgery, then it's time to get worried. :)

Are you sure your doctors were using Google to find answers to your questions, TMS? Just because they looked things up on an electronic device doesn't mean that they were doing as unsophisticated search as you yourself might have done. My guess is that they were accessing far more specialized information than what the first 20 hits on Google might yield.

I love my doctor's patient portal feature they have. Its nice to send him a message and question and get a reply in a day or so. Saves an office visit and copay. I know to call 911 for an emergency. Otherwise I send him a message and he gets back to me whether or not to come in or not. Sometimes his nurse will call and let me know what he wants me to do. I don't abuse it and only see him when I really have a problem. I don't see any doctor or specialist unless I really need too. I have a couple of friends that more or less camp out at their doctor's office for every little thing. My doctor is on his laptop when I see him, updating my new information, etc. He is not looking up answers to my questions.

Last year I had a procedure done and it was all
technology, the Surgeon put a probe/camera in
to my femoral artery and for the next 3 hours he
watched what he was doing on a 6 X 4 foot screen.

Some of the modern methods are very good.

Mike.

OTOH, in the old days, didn't doctors often consult their medical texts for answers? Particularly for things like drug dosage and side effects? No human being could carry all that knowledge in their head.

They've done a marvelous job of stream lining the medical profession. Done away with getting up close and personal with patients and gone straight to pushing drugs. Seems they have a pill for most anything these days (sigh). Oh well, all in the name of progress I suppose. Don...

I'll say!......I spend about 8-10 minutes with my GP [in the exam room] about 45-60 minutes over all for the visit. Then I get a printout of possible specialist I may want to consider seeing, for the exact thing I went to see him about!

Yes, they had the PDR- Physician's Desk Reference, at least.
