Does anyone else just take it a day at a time

I take it one day at a time. When I make plans in advance I think about them and how to do them and I tell no one about the plans. When the day comes for me to do what I have planned I think about it and if the vibes are bad or I get that gut feeling that things are going to go bad I change the plans to a earlier time, later time or later date. Sometimes when I am out and about I get that gut feeling that something is going to go bad usualy about three to five minutes in the future and I do things that will keep me out of the danger. I do my best to stay away from the drama in the news and in life and just see the cold hard facts. I also go into the kill the ego mode when dealing with tough situations. Kill the ego as in in killing my own ego so I dont become emotionally involved with troubles that come my way. Like a saying I used in the military " Stick your ego in your back pocket and do the job that you trained to do".

While We

Quote taken from op's post

"can't change inflation, the cost of groceries, gas, utilities, medical care. We can't end the war in Ukraine. So much of this can be only changed by the people we elect to govern and protect us, our welfare."

I think these people have a different vision of one day at a time. This group believes that getting to America will eventually happen & they will enjoy a better life.

Nothing political intended. Just observing no matter how bad life seems to be, others want a chance to better their lives.

I am so tired of all the things going on right now. We all just need a break, take the news in stride and keep doing what we have done. We can't change inflation, the cost of groceries, gas, utilities, medical care. We can't end the war in Ukraine. So much of this can be only changed by the people we elect to govern and protect us, our welfare.

I have adjusted for inflation, the cost of groceries, gas, utilities and medical care. I am lucky that I have no mortgage or car payment. I am lucky that I have never had luxuries, it is not a problem to cut back or go without, I have done it many times.

I worry more for others that don't have enough to pay their bills, buy food, gas, utilities, have young growing families. Those of us who have no one to turn to if they are in trouble. Please if you need help and qualify for any service apply! If you can go to your local food or church food bank go. I would not hesitate at all if I needed help.

Wonderful sentiment. The needs out there are far, far, far more than the resources and services available. And that is across the board.

Even if folks apply for help, the help that is available if often only a very small portion of what they need.

My wife used to work for a major charity in NYC that funded a wide range of charities. The money has not really been there, since, oh, maybe the 80s...and even then it was pretty thin.

Taking one vagary at a time diminishes them into nothingness.
This seems to be the only way to handle things at this time.
Please keep the oaths of country, of flag, of memories of warriors slain.
When things seem insurmountable, don't give up.

Yes, I think APATHY will be the end of society as we know it.
APATHY is the end of marriages, the end of Democracy, the end of civility.
The now world of pain will creep unto demise.
The last breath of freedom and laugh shall descend upon the world.
Those with fight to hold the rights will now bend to fit in with the lowly ways of man.
Dark befalls the men of earth.
Dark envelops man.

These ways must end in fight. No other ways show face.
Speak out, even if your voice be surrendered in the fight.
Speak as your honor tells you.
Don't let your voice die in apathy. Don't let go.

wonderful. I really like the way you look at things, phrase things. Very inspiring.

Have a nice day, nice weekend...

Oh, I thought you might like this, since you love Angels. I bit more unusual. It's a harp solo, by Alice Coltrane, who used to be married to John Coltrane.

Laurie and I just love this piece...

So, I was a violent crime victim and I have PTSD. And, you know, I have had to do a lot of work regarding the PTSD.

And so, I have learned some things about trauma.

And what I can say, based on my own experiences, is that, just between the pandemic and the war in Ukraine and other news items?

That is easily enough to give people some kind of base level of trauma.

It is so dramatic and powerful, I would really advise people to not take that "deep dive" into the news, like you may have been doing.

Really makes sense to put some checks in there, about how much news to watch.

And to also, you know, give your mind some "emotional nutrition," some peace. Go for that walk in nature. Or go fishing ....or go to the golf course. Give your mind and emotions that break.

With things the way they are now, it is no longer a luxury. It is really a necessity!

Laurie and I found these videos on You Tube. Very simple, very nice. Relaxing scenes from nature with some pleasant music behind them. When overly stressed, we just take some time out and watch these for a half hour or so...

Here are two - nice drone footage of the Isle of Skye in Scotland
and some nice footage of the Aurora Borealis in Alaska.

I believe in keeping thoughts of blessings for everyone who is hurting and offering encouragement and more when we can, does make a difference. Thank you for the OP 🌹

That's a bit harsh. If you're not going to educate yourself on the issues your better off not voting. And what has voting got us? We've had both parties now have complete control in recent years and where has it gotten us? No where good, imo. I still vote but I'm getting less and less convinced it does any good.
Gosh I too think that shaming someone for not voting is a bit harsh. I also agree that perhaps not being informed is a reason not to vote. I know there have been issues on ballots that I skipped because I could not decide which way was better..I will continue to vote but can understand why some would decide not to...

Good point, Serenity4321. A lot of people don't realize that they don't have to vote for everything on a ballot. After you have done your research, if only one thing concerns you or you are only sure of one candidate you want to support, just show up to the voting place and fill in that choice. Your votes still count!

Well shame on you. This is a democracy which depends upon your vote, whichever way you lean. It's nothing to be proud of.

Does not want to worry. An excuse not to vote. Self protection against reality. More should worry, more not less.

Unpatriotic to give up your right to vote, a right people have struggled and died for. Your attitude is poison for this nation.
Your comment does not bother me in the least. I can only be myself. Thank you for your thoughts.

I went down to the pond yesterday, there were three boy ages about 10, 12, 12, and I asked them how the fishing was , they asked me what bait to use, I told them, then one asked me to fix his fishing pole, he didn't know how , I rigged it up and he casted it out and caught a fish, I then had to snow them how to take it off the hook, I then let it go, teaching these boys to fish made this 74 year old's day, I've been thru hell , and this is not it, there is still good to do.

very nice of you to take the time to do that. Not everyone would...

Your post about the three boys fishing reminds me of a movie we saw recently:

This is a great example of a day not wasted. I can see so many good events in the future for these boys that will be created by the ripple effect of your kindness and the time you gave them, including respect for the elderly. Thanks for being there for them and sharing this day's experience with us.

I've never understood "taking one day at a time." Is there another option? It's like telling someone to "stand with the soles of your feet downward."

My sentiments exactly. :)

The Serenity Prayer is a prayer written by the American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr[1][2] (1892–1971). It is commonly quoted as:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.[

Thanks, JaniceM! Though I'm not a god believer, this still speaks to the original topic of taking life one day at a time, in my opinion - and it just makes good sense. I appreciate the reference!
