Does anyone love flying?

I flew with my kids when they were 7 and 9 years old from KC to San Francisco. ( area I was raised to see my parents and big brother ). They were thrilled. I liked it too.

I did go up in a small plane once, and that was a little scary. I felt pretty vulnerable up there.

I love flying. I hate airports.
Precisely what I was going to say. I love to fly... love the take-off and landing... but the airport experience is horrible, which is sad because for the vast majority of people that is the beginning of their holiday (vacation)... and on the return the long queues for passport control and baggage and the attitude of security take the shine right off any benefits you may have had from your trip...

I don't actually have a comment for you, but I don't know how to make this box go away so I'll send. Is there a way to make the box go away after it's been clicked?

can anyone say they really love flying in a plane?
i do it,but,im very glad when iv touched down,i realy hate the landings
Landings are nothing to fear. Pilots that use the ILS, or Instrument Landing System, generally have no issues putting the plane near the beginning and on the center of the runway. If a smaller airport does not have an ILS installed, the pilots will hand fly the plane using VFR, or Visual Flight Rules. IOW, they use their eyes, instruments and experience to put the plane down. The vast, vast majority of passenger planes in the U.S. will use the ILS, unless the runway they are landing on is not operational. That is seldom the case in the U.S. and Canada. Other countries, I can’t comment on. I never flew International. There is a third option for landing and that is IFR, or Instrument Flight Rules. Normally, weather dictates to a pilot whether to use VFR or IFR, when an ILS is not available.

From speaking with other pilots that have flown International, I have learned that some airports in South America operate without an ILS, but those are mostly the smaller airports.

If you a need to understand how an ILS works, I recommend this site.

Come fly the friendly skies. Remember that slogan?

No, I don’t enjoy it, don’t hate it either. It’s the fastest way from A to B and sometimes on to C on a long trip.

I'm not a fan of airports or flying. If I could get there another way, I would, but sometimes you've just gotta fly. I look at it this way, you have to go through all the hassle and discomfort, and then you get a prize at the end. Safe arrival and enjoying the time at your destination is the goal.

Don't love flying just considered it an economical & quick way to get to where we were going. Trips to Puerto Rico & Hawaii by boat take to long. Trips from Penna. to Las Vegas way to long by car.

But when not on pre retirement vacation gambling trips.
Road trips more interesting. Unlike flying, getting out to see or experience something is doable.

While in the Navy. Helicopters both reciprocating & jet engine powered, Beechcraft, T-28 trainer, Lockheed P-2 Neptune, Super Constellation reconnaissance, Marine C-130, DC3 & DC6 cargo & UF-1 twin engine sea plane. Civilian 737, 747, MD80.

ALWAYS appreciated deboarding since that meant we made it. Most surprising was the rough landing in the north Atlantic in the seaplane. The trip was for fishing. Climbed out of the hatch & sat on the wing. Didn't need a bobber on the line the plane was bobbing just enough.

Remembering things like this reminds me I've lived a pretty interesting life.

Anyone that complains to me about airports, I agree with them most of the time. Of course, there are those that I label as a chronic complainer that complains about anything that is even slightly out of their ordinary routine.

I tell people that if you want to see or meet rude people (why would you?) just go to the airport. People with oversized backpacks, mostly youguns, seem to be the worse. For those that use a backpack, if they are not overstuffed, they are fine, I have seen passengers become very agitated over people wearing overstuffed backpacks, turn around quickly and nearly knock others over that are nearby and then don’t even apologize.I know flight attendants have taken backpacks from passengers and either stowed them in an overhead bin or upfront at the cabin door where a cabinet is located. We had a real incident once that almost turned into a melee.

Have you ever flown inside restricted airspace? Do you carry an IFR rating? Just being curious.
Yes I have flown in restricted airspace. The most common one I flew is near Camp Pendleton at the shoreline. I have also flown through the Lemore MOA to get to Hanford.
I got my IFR rating in 1974.

I enjoy flying but long flights can be a real drag because you're stuck in your seat most of the time. Flying was more interesting when I was in the Air Force when sometimes you had the comforts of a piece of cargo, but I was young then, so it didn't matter.

Good for you. We had an issue with a single engine plane, but I forget where

If you're talking about commercial air travel my answer is I dislike it more than like it. But that's simply because it's a hassle, the planning, airports, luggage, other passengers, and still can't get from point A to B fast enough for my liking.

..and then it's ruined on the return trip...😖..if train and railways staff or long distance coach staff... treated us the way airport staff do, there would be no-one travelling at all.. there just no need for the way we're treated at airports.. especially given the high cost of some travel
