Does anyone still take baths?

I love my bath and can still get in and out without difficulty.

I remember studying an essay by Francis Bacon when I was still in High School. If memory serves it was titled "On (or possibly Of) Taking a Bath. He wrote about the delights of soaking in a bathtub long enough for it to require the addition of more hot water. It struck a chord with me.

I would love to read it again but haven't been able to find it so far using a search engine. If one of our more literary Seniors knows how to find it I would be most pleased.

Home came with tubs & shower head to use if a tub bath wasn't wanted. Never did like sitting in water that had body dirt washed off so shower part was used.

Wife thought old age might complicate/be difficult getting in an out of a tub so she asked me to remove the tubs & put in shower stalls. Did that leaving plenty of room to use a made for handicapped shower seat if one of us became handicapped & needed to sit while being showered.

Planning ahead never stopped.

I would feel dirtier after having a bath and feel like I would need a shower. I don't like the idea of sitting in water that has my dirt in it. With a shower, I'm washing it down the drain.
LOL. As a child I spent many hours in the local municipal swimming pool with literally hundreds of other bathers. For those who haven't had the experience, the water contained chlorine, pee, snot and toe jam.

I have no fear of taking a hot bath in my own bathtub.

We have a jetted tub at home and I've never used it in the 17 years we've lived here. However, when I traveled on business and was feeling stress I would often take a hot bath in a hotel room. Then I would take a shower to rinse everything off. I don't have much stress these days, but maybe it's time to christen the jetted tub!

That was my thoughts too. The thread title implies, well, we all stink. A bath in the evening and a shower in the morning has been my ablution routine for well over fifty years. Getting in and out of the tub isn't so difficult with a non slip bath mat and a couple of grab handles placed one each side making it easier. I also get out before pulling the plug, the water adds buoyancy, which aids balance.
You have indoor plumbing????

If I had grown up in that, I would probably feel like you do. I would feel like anything would be better than being in swimming pools with pee, etc. in it. But, I grew up taking a bath but later I started taking showers and I haven't regretted it yet.

With So Cal often being in water shortage conditions, quick showers are the way almost everyone goes. This past year's extreme drought further cut most of us to every other or every third day during cooler weather - and a quick wash of the essentials on the off days. Funny thing, despite how bathing obsessed we've all become, I can't say I've detected any cases of body odor.

With all this year's rain, our current water restrictions should ease a bit before summer heat arrives. That's when daily bathing is more crucial.

Despite not liking baths, in summertime I take a 1/2 hour swim most mornings followed by a two minute shower to rinse off the chlorine. It's literally that quick.

Before swimming, I wet my hair, work in a generous dollop of leave-in conditioner, and put on a bathing cap. The conditioner protects my hair from any chlorinated water that sneaks in under the bathing cap. No green hair!

Up at the cabin, there were two options

Nothing quite like bathing in the sun after a day of toil

Then letting ol' sol dry ya off

My preference is a bath, but it is not as readily easy for me to hop in and
out of as in years gone, by. Nothing like a soak in the tub, oh it feels so
wonderful to me. Anyway, these days, I stay with showers only, I like them
also, just not as much ...

There was this fellow on my old mental health forum who posted that he only showered 3 times a year.

Then he would complain about how strangers would give him odd looks and others would keep trying to avoid him.

But Sherlock couldn't put two and two together. I didn't no whether to laugh or cry.
