I am wondering for all the advice and comments on this forum,
have you changed something in your life or did something different
because of a comment?
Not just listening to a new song or playing a game.
I am curious if this forum influenced you, hopefully positively.
Does it make a practical difference?

Interesting question, Victor. I think it has a little bit in my case, especially when we were still allowed political subjects. It opened my mind to other ways of thinking; instead of my usual kneejerk liberal response to everything, I came to realize that at times (not always) the conservatives had a point.

I can't say I made any drastic changes in my life, but it definitely expanded my thinking and introduced new ideas. And due to the fact that we live all over the world, it helps me realize how small the world really is, and that minds reaching out to other minds transcend any national boundaries.

I'm not sure that you'd call it being influenced but I have received help and information from SF members regarding computer problems, dietary supplements etc.

Just been here a short time so can't say anything has influenced me here yet. But on another forum I did learn to love gardening by looking at a member's pictures.

For me I don't think influenced, more like confirmed that it's never to late to learn from the views/posts/opinions of other people.

Living mostly with the younger generation now because older family members and friends have passed on I was beginning to wonder if my thinking on certain subjects was really obsolete. I may not agree with everything that is said on this forum but it made me realize I'm not alone in my line of thinking, so in that respect it has changed me. Now I can say to myself, I'm not the only who does this or that. So when I hang out the wash or re purpose items around the house I know I'm not alone. Sometimes it even makes me smile .

Good question. I think in minor ways, as in trying a recipe, or looking for simple advice. While I have read information here about Medicare, insurance and Social Security, I would not stop here, but I would take input from people who have "been there" into consideration in my own journey into this area. So, while I look here for advice and information, I look elsewhere as well.
I mean, I have answered questions for folks here, but I would not expect them to take my answer as the final answer. Just one of many to consider.

It makes me think, see the other side of the coin, reassures me that other old folks have similar concerns and it has helped me find solutions to a few small problems but it doesn't really influence me.

It has allowed me to meet many interesting people from different parts of the world, a few that I consider to be good friends and kindred spirits.

I wouldn't say it has influenced me, but I haven't been here for long. I do appreciate a place where my contemporaries are gathered to talk about topics that are of interest to me, with a common "history." I feel a part of this place already; it's nice.

I've been a member here for 6months now,and I truly enjoy being here,I wish I had found this forum sooner. One of the other posters had mentioned this, the members are from around the world,we get a different perspective on our thoughts and ideas which I find refreshing.I was a member for 5yrs at the AARP website, left because it became boring, the politics section is really nasty, alot of angry people over there.
Victor to answer your question,I haven't been influenced by any SF poster yet, but I do take into consideration when somebody responds to what I have posted Sue

I have a more positive attitude, now, to a forum with senior citizens on it. The AARP forum not only has the most confusing, worst format of any online forum, but it also has people on it that seem to not be very happy with their lives. This is a far better-organized forum, and I like the people, here, a lot better.

Sharing thoughts about death and dying has really helped because in daily life I find
that no one really likes to talk about it.

That is so true, Olivia. Even my hubby doesn't want to talk "final arrangements" or that important stuff. It's like if we don't discuss it, it won't happen. :D I finally got him to go with me to a lawyer and get our wills done a couple of years ago.

Don't know....yet

Y'all seem like me

but different

BTW

did I show y'all my new onesy?

Ugh, I totally agree about the AARP Forum; what a quagmire.

C'est Moi,there were a couple things I hated about the AARP website. The adminstrators would change the look of the site without giving us any warning. If you had a question for them, they NEVER would reply in a timely manner which I thought was truly unprofessional. Sue

I've been here for 4 years now overall...and I've seen a lot of people come and go... I've learned a lot about people and the way they interact and react... . I've learned a lot about America , and the American people, and have made life long friends here... some of which no longer post on the forum..but are still very close friends.

I joined here when I was in my 50's...and as this is a senior forum there's often a huge age gap between the youngest seniors and the elder seniors, sometimes as much as 40 years ...I might not be of any help to them, but I've learned a whole load about what to expect as I age both emotionally, spiritually, and physically, , and that has been the single most useful thing I've learned here..

No. It has 'entertainment' value to me, but nothing more. That may be because I'm a news junkie and besides being anal, I'm pretty much anal retentive. I read a couple of hours of news a day, of every imaginable subject, so things posted here are not new to me, regardless of position.
I just like to see the various comments people have.
It does enforce my long-standing knowledge that I'm pretty different from the mainstream in most ways...........

My experience there was minimal; I was searching for some information and checked their forum. What a mess, and what a bunch of cranky, hateful people. Not a place where I wanted to participate.
