Don't Tell Me I Don't Have Time

My first watch

Have a "fancy" watch in the bureau. Forget what brand. It stopped working twenty or so years ago. Had it fixed and it crapped out again in a few years. Timex's since then. No repairs - -just use 'em and throw them away.

Don't really care about "appearance", but then, as I'm almost never "dressed up" it makes little difference as long as it keeps time.

One of the first things I bought for myself when I got a good job in my youth was a well made watch and I have been wearing them since. I've only been through 3 good ones because they last for 20 years at least.

My first watch was a Snow White watch my parents bought me when I was six! Dad wore a Rolex but never bought me one and of course I didn't buy one because they were pricey for me. For a while I bought trendy watches with colorful bands and moons and stars on the face but they were made to wear out quick so I went back quality watches and I do wear one all of the time except for housework and sleeping. To me it's like a piece of jewelry. A good watch can be that. :giggle:

Good topic @Naturally
It doesn't feel right not to wear a watch. I started bugging my grandson, so *I* can buy him his first one, as I bought his first mittens & hat. He is not interested. Yet. I have work to do!

Thanks Pepper !!! ... My first watch was a Gruen watch when I was 7yrs old. Based on the size of the watch, think it was a ladies watch actually but wasn't feminine. Fit a 7yr old. My grandparents gave me the watch for Christmas. I had the best grandparents EVER !!! ... they gave me so much of my "firsts". Thanks for "ticking" that memory :)

And very good observation in your earlier post about 10 and 2. Spot on

I got my first watch when I was 10 as an Xmas present from my parents.
But, it kept going wrong whenever I wore it. In the end dad put some backing in it and it was fine.
Through the years, I've had other watches and every one of them went wrong unless a backing was put in. Even borrowed a watch and that went wrong.
So, in the end I gave up.
I suppose I could have new fangled digital one that would probably work on me, but I like the look of the old style wind ups, and I've found I don't miss wearing a watch anyway.

I've still got that original watch from when I was 10. :giggle:

I wear a watch every day, have quite a few to match different outfits, I rarely use my phone, it’s slung in the bottom of my bag for emergencies, so I wouldn’t be looking at that to get the time

My first watch came in at Christmas 1966. It was a wee Timex plain with a black wristband in leather, gold, white background and black numbers and needles plus a red one for seconds. Analogue.

Wore it until digital came out, can't remember exactly when. Then got a Casio digital with wonderful tunes for your, half-hour, so on and so forth. Hubby from 84 on, got me new watch, digital and analogue, every year on either my birthday or Christmas.

Nowadays, I've only one that still has a good battery. It's analogue display, green wristband with Spring flowers in the dial. It's over 7 years old and was last present at Christmas from both my son and daughter, it's from Avon.

I bought Munchkins their first watches with dials teaching them how to read time. They tried digital but preferred analogue.

I bought hubby a pocket watch and had it engraved. He wore it, everyday except the day he died. He'd actually forgot his watch. He'd told me via text message, before coming home from shopping with daughter. He'd planned to pass it onto our son when he passed away. Unfortunately, our son died in 2017 and hubby in 2022.

I still have it and intend to have re-engraved as it was done superficially in red ink and has now faded.
