yes the fact that it was only 12 shows makes it really tedious to have them shown on constant repeat 45 years later... I know the scripts of all of them off by heart
It was actually based on a real character whom Connie Booth and John met in real life in some squalid B&B years before..
Connie ( who plays Polly the waitress).. was married to John Cleese at that time and they co-wrote the series..
Prunella Scales is now in her 80's with quite severe dementia... and her husband is Timothy West an acclaimed Film, TV and theatre actor.. a lovely man..
This was a lovely series they did together for TV.. with all their adventures on their canal boat sailing around the UK...
This is episode 1, of series 1... before Prunella was struck with Dementia.. and just to say ..even when she was eventually diagnosed she continued to sail. and Timothy taking care of her without ever being patronising in the later series .. is a joy to behold.. such a lovely couple... and TW is an acquaintance of my husband
