Drama in the News

Maybe I just never noticed it when I was younger, but it seems like there is so much false "drama" in news reports today, including weather reports. It's comical when I hear the local weather forecasters reporting how intense the weather is. A fellow had a close-up of rubbing his shoe on around 1 1/2 inches of slush...as he warned us all of how serious that may be, especially when it ices over in the morning hours.

The weather reporters will beg for moisture when there is drought, complain about rain/snow when we do get it, complain that lack of wind has caused pollution conditions, and then warn of usual winds when they do come. In summer, they complain that it's been cloudy, overcast and rainy...then 4 days later, complain that it's too hot, sunny and dry. It's amazing how many people let their own attitudes and moods become affected by these news persons.

Really, it appears that they truly want to scare people, have them overreact to normal situations, etc. Sad thing is...it's working for too many folks out there. :(

"infotainment" is what we have now because the average person has no interest in thinking about the underlying problems reflected in news events and their only solutions are those that can be printed on a T-Shirt.

I get aggravated at the news casts in general, they come on blasting the news at you like it was the end of the world, with their priorities all messed up about what is most important to report first.....a lot of the time, they have the celebritity news right up there along with what's really important going on in the world.
Then there is the omitting, exagerating, and twisting of the news to suit their political views.
o.k.......getting off my soapbox now.....lol :friendly_wink:

I agree with both of you, entertainment value of news reports very much overshadows the real factual reporting that is of useful value. The celebrity aspect drives me insane, should be restricted to TMZ or Entertainment Tonight type shows.

I don't even bother watching news or weather anymore. I can't do anything about either one, so why bother?

Isn't it an amazing coincidence also that every newscaster and weatherperson is handsome / gorgeous?

And I still believe that meteorologists get kickbacks from grocery stores and gas stations.

You know they oversell the news when they have "TEAM COVERAGE!" in five locations, or more, simply because it's raining. What hogwash.

I used to spend a lot of time on current events shows, commentary shows such as O'Reilly, and others. Then one day it dawned on me that almost the entirety of such shows is speculation. For me, people guessing what might happen isn't reason enough to watch anymore.

Now I spend more time than ever on history shows. I love 'em! And also the shows about how things work, are built, etc. such as Modern Marvels. Great stuff!

Mythbusters was one of my favorites when I had cable. I can still get it on Netflix but I have not the time lately. I often said that my dream job would be the archivist on Mythbusters.
