... Is something most of us ladies do (But please gentlemen if you want to speak of yours do so?)
We hope that someday will find the perfect guy for us girls or perfect girl for you guys.
Some of us know what dress we want, the flowers, the shoes, the veil... Something new, something borrowed, something blue and a penny in your shoe.
My sibling was the first one to do so (and I wrote the story about it, I'll put it up on my blogger later on, if you're curious). I'd been the flower girl then. Never was a bridesmaid or a maid of honour...but...
Thanks to a palm reader, I found my soulmate and my wedding day took place. The Month we wanted, the flowers, the church, the cake (yummy) and the overall size of the party. My darling took care of his dressing which was simply amazing.
Unfortunately, my dressing was ruined, thanks to the weirdest situation I'd ever been in.
To begin with, my maid of honour refused to accompany me for my bridal outfit, straight after I'd got her the outfit she wanted to wear at my wedding. Weird One!
So, I waited on a Saturday morning while hubby-to-be was at work. I had 4 appointments booked. The first one, there goes the Weird Two, took one look at me and rudely said: "Who'd want to marry you, get out..." Yup, in tears
in my car, had to wait for appointment two almost an hour away. I went to coffee shop and sat in to recharge my frayed nerves.
Appt two, only offered high collar type dresses and puffy meringues. One, I've a short neck, I look awful in turtleneck. I've big hips... Well no to meringue...
Appt 3, had one I wanted but couldn't order the dress in time... I left panicking.
Appt 4, had exactly what I'd always wanted. Everything went amazingly, the court shoes with laced hearts, the blusher veil elbow length, two garters (one to give away, one to keep) and the dress of my dreams.
I was told that all would arrive on the Friday before wedding day as they were very busy. I was nervous but paid, thanked my wonderful helper but the two girls at the counter got me worried. They never stopped giggling... I left with my heart lighter than ever.
However, on the Friday I went to pick up my order, once again alone. My helper was nowhere to be found but the two giggling girls were there. They handed me the 3 bags and told me to scoot as they were closing early. Put it that way, I had an oh-oh moment.
I rushed home to drop the bags off then went back downtown to pickup hubby-to-be from work. In the evening I finally had time to myself to look at my outfit. Looking at my notes and the numbers on the bill. Nothing matched except the two garters.
The store was now closed for two weeks and my wedding was on Saturday morning. The dress was heavy satin meringue (Sarah, Duchess of York, yes, the basic style of dress, minus the big train and haute couture lol. My veil barely reached my shoulders and the pointiest shoes I'd ever seen. Something blue became me...
I may have looked awful but my handsome fiancƩ was there and the ceremony was lovely. The rest didn't matter. After the honeymoon, I went back to the store to find it boarded up. So, never got reimbursed. I finally gave all to charity a few years ago. Too sad. Sorry but true. I found out years later that they were a bad company.
Below are the dress and shoes I'd chosen but never got.

Now, your turn. Did you have the wedding of your dreams or a disaster? I married in the 80s in June with silk roses, I still have them.
