Ever Have One of Those Days?

It started out okay, but then I went to a Kroger supermarket that I don't usually go to. It seemed like I couldn't find anything in that store, without asking someone, or hunting down a directory, and backtracking clear across the store again.

The ad said blackberries, 4 for $5, so I planned to get some of those, as berries are not only tasty, but really good for you. Well, I couldn't find any, and when I asked the man who worked there, he said they never got them in. When I said maybe they have them in another store, he said no, none of the stores have them. I planned to get a 'rain-check' but forget about it during checkout.

We were also planning to eat a big salad for dinner today, so I wanted to get the croutons we like there, the regular Mrs. Cubbison's seasoned ones. Well, they had every other flavor and brand but the one I wanted, so I passed on those.

I was in a line with just one person in front of me, she didn't have much in her cart, and I was in no hurry. Well, one of the women who works there, came over and started pulling my cart, saying to move to another lane, with no waiting. Since I've never been able to talk them out of it before without a big 'to do', I just said okay and followed her.

So, of course, she brings me to 'fast-lane' that had a limited item amount. The girl had nobody there, but she glared at the woman like she was po'd to see her bring me there. I was thinking that the girls attitude definitely needed adjusting. Luckily, by the time she was done with me, she became a bit more friendly, and wished me a good day.

I really don't know how long I was in that store, but it seemed like a looong time. Note to self, just go to the other two that I'm used to next time. It just seemed that things were very disorganized in that store, I wanted to buy fruit, but had to settle for a few bananas and bosc pears, due to ridiculously high prices.

They did have raspberries with a sign 4 for $5, but they looked pretty old. I saw some with the exact labeling in another section of the store, but they were marked $2.99ea. When I questioned the guy there, he scanned it and it came up $2.99. I had to point out the sale sign to him, for him to change it in the system. I guess things could have been worse, they could've screwed me at the register, and I would have had to wait in the Customer Service line to get a refund, if I didn't notice it right away.

Went home just feeling a bit 'out of sorts', and since our home team just lost the football game, I guess I turned out to be in a less disgusted mood than my hubby. :p Luckily he doesn't take those games too seriously, like some husbands do.

I am a creature of habit I suppose since I go to the same stores for the same items, over and over. I don't look at sales ads, and I don't clip coupons. I might be lazy, but also, what I spend on gas to get to a "special" price, I might break even is all. I really dislike grocery shopping. I'll bet I'm at least one of the fastest shoppers around this forum.. I mean I haven't ever killed anyone speeding through the store or anything, just the speed limit, LOL!

Sorry it didn't go so hot for you SB;) Hope your evening is going much better then your day;) denisefor sb.JPG

Evening's going fine, thanks, just made a walnut brownie mix with coconut oil, and it's cooling outside in the snow. :) I went to that store because it's near a pet store that has the cheapest quality cat food, and I was on my last can for my Loki. Picked up a dozen cans for him, that will last a good long time, just feed around 1/3 of a can daily, as he gets free-fed Blue dry food.

I hate any kind of shopping really, kinda like you. I'm a fast walker, and buzz in and out of stores usually when I know what I want. Even if I have to go to a mall store for something, I get there, try on what I have to, and get the heck outta Dodge. They look at me twice sometimes, like I'm a shoplifter or something, LOL! The smaller the town, the faster I must appear to go! :playful:

Beautiful flower photo, thank you for that! :love_heart:

I've had days like that too SeaBreeze so I feel your pain. There needs to be a system where we get advance warning so we can stay in bed those days! Sleep the day away and try again tomorrow.

(Lovely rose Denise! Was that from your garden by any chance?)

LOL, I like the idea of an "advanced" warning Debby!!

The rose is a shot of mine, but not my garden dern it;) It's a place called Shoreacres Botanical Gardens about, um, 3 or 4 miles from me;) Thanks Debby:)

Wow, I'm impressed, the rose looks so professional, great photography there! :cool2:

thanks Seabreeze,

I like trying my hand at it, but need lots of practice:) I think better days are on the horizon;) hugs, denise

I understand completely SB. My main grocery store is Kroger. If I go to any other store, I'm lost. Over the years I have worked very hard on not looking at the receipts afterwards. Every time I've found an error in the past, it turned out costing me more to get it corrected, than to just ignore it. I don't like doing that, but it sure makes life happier. I try to buy things on sale. I figure I did my part of the deal.

I also hate those store cards. Prices are outlandish if you don't use them, and just barely competitive if you do. It's a trick to soak the people who don't care about prices.

We have two Walmarts here and they are reverse images of each other (groceries on opposite sides), so you have to remember which one you are at first. And checkout lines... I don't understand it why a big company like Walmart would have such poor checkout facilities. And I can never remember where my car is when I go outside.:eewwk:

The checkouts at our Walmarts haven't been too bad, they always seem to have plenty of registers open. I usually park in the same area, a little bit of a walk, but away from the crowds. Sometimes if I want some brain exercise, I'll park in a weird spot, and have to remember where it was. Ever push your full cart down the wrong aisle in the lot, only to see your car is one over...and there's a curbed partition with grass that you have to walk around? Only did that once. :D

I started really trying to count up my totals before I hit the register, and only since I've retired have I started checking the receipts. The amounts of mistakes they make are incredible. Sometimes it's the cashier's fault, sometimes the item just didn't ring up the sale price, etc. If I discover a mistake after I get home, I try and figure out if it's worth the time, hassle and gas money to go back, sometimes I just forget it.

Recently, I went back to a store for $2.24 cent mistake, I was still out and about in that area though, so it wasn't really out of my way to go back.

I don't go into Wal-Mart any more than necessary, like for things I will really save on, and when I do go in, I try to just grit my teeth and "git 'er done." I used to get Rx stuff there, but it became SO much of a hassle I just transferred to Walgreens. No real price difference on my RX plan, anyway, and Walgreens has this prescription savings plan that saves me a huge amount on my doggies' prescriptions (I have big old dogs). The only weird thing is that Harold, my male dog, who has the Walgreens status of head of household, gets mail from them now about sales and whatnot.

Walgreens' plan takes dogs' prescriptions, and just signs them up. The only trouble I had in the beginning was that this dim bulb person who worked the drive up window kept giving me grief about Harold not signing for certain prescriptions himself, and told me I had to bring his driver's license in. SO, I just brought Harold with the next time and he stuck his great big head out the window and explained to that worker why he did not have a driver's license (he can't reach the pedals) and why he can't sign for his own prescriptions (no thumbs). Problem solved.

Nice photo , Denise. Closeups of flowers are my favourite subject to shoot.

We only have one big supermarket where we live. To go to another requires a ferry trip. No problem finding anything. But why did they stop stocking sesame seeds?! Grr

Oh, boy! I can relate. Seems like lately, I've had lots of those days:)

Strange about the Kroger store...our Kroger stores have the same layout and the same stuff in the same aisles in whichever store we're in.

Denise, great photo!

Taoist philosophers would say that on these kinds of days you are not "in the Tao" - they're one of those days that from the moment your feet hit the floor in your bedroom things start going wrong.

Their prescription to make things right? Boil two frogs and do some breathing exercises. ;)

Great pic, Denise!

That's true about those kind of days.Rather unkind to boil 2 frogs though [and the niff that would cause in the kitchen!] The breathing may help though [and a glass of wine.]

I think our Walmart is trying to force people into the "self-check-out" lanes. There will six of them open and then one 10-item-or-less lane and one regular lane. I'll use the self-check-out if I only have a couple of things but every dang time I try it with groceries, something won't ring up. I have a love-hate relationship with Walmart. Love the prices, hate the store. Unfortunately, when you pit my cheap side against my aesthetic side, the cheap b**ch wins out every time.

They are never ''self check outs'''..Assistants stand there..''Unidentified product in the bagging area''..If you buy alcohol..one of them has to come over and take the tag from round it..

They are a mess...

No, but close - actually they're brine shrimp -

... and they're sold in fish stores as that, but as ronaldj mentioned they're sold in the backs of comic books as sea monkeys.

Well, well, thought you were making all that up! The pics from the comic hardly match up to the live thing though[there must have been a whole lot of disappointed kids back then.]

Lol...waiting for them to grow into monkey's?...

Wonder what tricks they could do?...:D

That is..of course..if trained properly...
