I received a message saying that I had a purchase from amazon , charged to my debit card to the tune of $149.00 . If i recognize this purchase and to receive my order, just hang up and the transaction will take place. If not, call this number , which I did ... all Indians [India] they tell me to go to my computer [ very hard to understand them] I ask why do i need to be at my computer ? When I never purchased anything from Amazon in the first place. Anyway, back & forth trying to understand, asked for a supervisor , he's no easier to understand , ...... they hang-up on me.

Right now my BP is boiling, and i do not know how it stands.

No point in calling the number again, as I'm sure I will not understand them any better.

I think I will call Visa.

I would have checked my Amazon account. If it showed no such order, then the phone call was a scam. That said, I've NEVER had Amazon actually CALL me regarding an order. So, again ... scam.

And I've been ordering from Amazon since 1999.
I have gotten that same call, and took the same action. These scammers are bust little beavers.

These scam calls are on the rise. We are getting several per day, even though we have NoMoRobo on our phone. It's to the point where when our caller ID shows a name/number we don't recognize, we just let it ring. These scammers are even hacking legitimate local phone numbers, and we even had one showing our own landline number. Most of them show a "V" as the first digit in their phone number which is a dead giveaway that they are using a VOIP protocol to make dozens of calls per minute.
Unfortunately, there seems to be little the authorities can do to stop this, as most of these calls originate in India, or SE Asia.

Well, I didn't say anything to them except "I didn't charge/buy anything from Amazon"

Hope nothing comes up on my account. I think I'll still call Visa just to be sure.

I will never have a debit card, which denies them access to my bank account.

Calls from the government, etc are all bogus.

If we do not see the name of someone that we want to talk to on caller ID, we do not answer the phone.

I've seen warnings about this. They always say that legitimate companies, government organizations, etc. will never ask you to call them. And never give them any information off your computer. This was obviously a scam.

I always do the same, but this was a message left on my machine, [with a number] and i called to get to the bottom of it. I think I made myself clear ?

For sure .... damn aggravating that our Gov can't do anything about this .......... must be some $$$ in it for them... ;)

I never get (answer) any of those calls, because I just won't answer the phone for an unknown number. It's an easy practice to follow.

I don't either, haven't for years now. As I said this was a message left on my machine .

I think it's a pretty good con. If you hang up, supposedly $149 will be charged to you. Keeps some people on the line.
But I'm not worried about any measly $149 charge. Today, I got a letter. I'm a "finalist" winner in the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes.- over $7,000 a week!

Probably a scam. If they hung up on you. I doubt the folks @ Amazon would do that. Sorry to hear it. Good luck.

Don't ever return their calls. That's just what they want you to do. The only people you should call would be either Visa or Amazon if you have an Amazon account. If you don't, call Visa.
Just a few weeks ago, I received an email pretending to be from Amazon saying my account had been locked. According to this email, I was suppose to click on their link and enter my username and password to unlock my account. I said, forget it and I closed the email and went to Amazon, logged in to my account and it was not locked and no purchases had been made except the ones I made. I suspected that all along. I then found an email address to forward this email to Amazon and did just that. I received a response from Amazon thanking me and saying they are investigating it. Don't ever call back a number they leave when these scammers call and leave messages.

This is a scam that has nothing at all to do with Amazon. The scammer was trying to get you to go to your computer because he would then tell you he needed access to the computer to fix the problem. If you had followed his instructions, he could have been into your computer with a few keystrokes. He would then have been in a position to steal all your personal data.

My husband volunteered with a program in our city to help seniors avoid being scammed. I didn't believe half the stories he came home with. But, sadly, it's all true. We all have to be really careful.

You guys know the wrong people. I’ve got an uncle in Timbuktu that left me 20 million dollars. Need to send my bank account number and it will be deposited over night.

They keep trying though. I’ve gotten emails that say I have all this money coming and the English is so bad I can hardly read it.
