Ive been a facebook user since 2010 mostly because I enjoy keeping up with nieces and nephews who are spread all over the country.
I do try to stay away from the drama and fake news.
I didn't join FB until a couple years ago. Even tho I am a late comer I enjoy connecting with family and classmates. And I have joined a few groups that were of interest to me like photography and nature. It can be a good thing or a bad thing. Like Giantsfan 1954 mentioned staying away from the drama of fake news keeps things more enjoyable.
I don't post every day, maybe once a week, but I check it several times every day. For example, I have multiple extended family members in South Carolina, and they have posted "I'm okay" messages, which I totally appreciate.
I use Facebook so I can see what the family is doing. My daughter also sends me videos of the Grand kids. Recently I have been selling items I know I'll never use on their Market Place. I practically have to give it away but at least I'm getting rid of the stuff and don't have to pack it up and haul it away.
I use it to keep up with old high school friends and nieces that live far away like Africa. However, I do not post much as I never have felt the need to tell everybody what I am doing every hour of the day. I have one niece by marriage that does and it bothers me that she shares so much personal info on her page. But she is young and in her circle, it is the norm.
I use it occasionally to keep up with my far-off kids and grandkids. But I notice that they seem to be using it a lot less lately. Maybe the novelty has worn off.
I use it all the time but I have about the same 50 friends I had over 10 years ago when I first joined which mostly consists of family, some lifelong childhood friends, a few that I had as friends on the now defunct MySpace site. It's nice to be able to keep up with all of them, see who has finished writing their new book. I use my privacy settings. I don't collect friends like some people do (some people have over 2000 friends). I don't even add people just because I went to school with them. I have noticed that a lot of my grandkids utilize snapchat and instagram a lot more. I'm not a selfie junkie so I don't even have a snapchat page. My youngest granddaughter quipped, "they need to change the name of Facebook to AARP".
Actually, I had a high school classmate that got upset with his wife, because she was putting too much stuff about what she was doing, on Facebook. It was like she was putting on Facebook each time she went to the bathroom. Now she only periodically posts.
I joined facebook when my grandsons joined so I could keep watch over them.I wasn't sure it was a safe place for them.(OH and I like to steal their Pictures).
I use FB all the time and I'm pretty cool with. It's a great way to keep in touch with relatives and friends etc etc. It's also good if you have a business to promote or an interest you're passionate about. You can meet lots of other people with the same interest. :love_heart:
I started out with MySpace, which was many years ago. I left that and went to Facebook and I use it to keep in touch with family and friends. A grandson we didn't even know we had was able to find his dad's family by finding me on Facebook. I keep my privacy settings at a level where people can see my name but not my Facebook wall and send me private messages if they want but only friends can see what I post, my photos and friends list.
Snap Linda, I started with MySpace too. I've been on Facebook since 2008, but don't use it much these days. I've become bored with it, really only keep it because of the messenger app. So many people just use that now, rather than texting or emailing.
