Facing Death as we live past 90.

I am 90 years old and male. Only 1 man in 5 live that long. Only 1 man in 200 lives to 95 and only 1 man in 8,000 lives to 100. However, I never contracted heart disease or cancer. Those two illnesses kill most folks before they get past age 80.

I never smoked nicotine or drank alcohol. Most folks like to enjoy those 2 poisons.

I am curious if anyone else here made it to age 90 or higher. If so, what do they credit their longevity to?

My Mom lived to 104 and she had cancer twice, (breast & colon cancer about 30 years apart) and had her lower spine fused when she was in her 20's and wore a metal & cloth back brace most of her life, smoked for some of her adult life, loved her glass of white rum & cola before dinner each night, ate red meat and all the other standard things of that era that people ate. So you tell me; is how long you live based on how you live or is it just in your DNA? I don't know the answer to that but what I can tell you is that living past 100 is no picnic. I know I don't want to get there!

One of friends passed away suddenly about a year ago….both him and his wife were very mobile / fit for thier ages
They would travel up to Queensland from south Aust for 3 months each winter ( Ray always drove up here ) which is approx 2.300 km each way …. From where they lived .

He passed away suddenly due to a fall getting out of the shower at 101 years old they had been married 78 years at the time of his death ..His wife Marg is still alive at 100 …Y / 0

We know 5 others where we attend functions who are + 2 @ …97..others 95 , and….. 2 ~ who are 100…. ( 2 ladies )
Another of our friends died last year at 97 …and one a month ago at 90 …..NONE ….of these people we know are in care ~ or assisted living facilities , all live independent units ~ or own homes

According to my G.P. 90 is not considered old unless you are disabled / have a serious illness or unable to take care of yourself

We keep fit …
by walking and other activities and we are pretty close to 80 ……

I Liked George Burns …and his
Great quotes on life , I seen him on 60 min one night …long ..long ago …. and the presenter asked why do you still walk so fast ?….and he said …Well ..you start shuffling like an old man ..before long you are only taking small steps ….then you Die …..he died in 1996 at 100 years old …

George Burns and his famous quotes often focused on humor, life, and longevity. Some of his popular sayings include:

"If you ask what is the single most important key to longevity, I would have to say it's walking swiftly."

I'm 91 wife will be 89 tomorrow. We met as teen-agers, married a couple of years later (1956) and have a flock of kids, grandkids, and great grands. Almost all live nearby and all get along well.

It's been a wonderful life and I'm only happy that my wife and I hung around long enough to enjoy it.
I would venture to say, it couldn't have worked out any better for the two of you Dave (y)

you know with certainty that "death" is coming ; will occur - I guess you can face it with strength ; with sadness ; with face or with excitement for that which is yet to come - the next adventure?

I am much younger than 90. But I feel I have enough of this life. There is nothing to look forward to other than the eventual illness and suffering from old age and ailing body. I am very worried about what illness will happen to me and how much pain and how long it will take to end my life.

A relative is 92, has heart disease, and survived cancer.
She has never done any sort of exercise except for walking to do any shopping.
Never stepped foot inside a gym.

She seems healthier than I do, and just might outlive me.

Then there are fetus still born. Only guarantee if born alive, death will happen. When ,where & how is the unknow unless suicide is chosen. Learning to enjoy everyday this side of the dirt takes time.

I don't waste my time trying to do things I can't do. ... :ROFLMAO: ...

Someone said my Hubby committed suicide, blew part of his face away.
Lived thru it. Life's hell.
Give em another bullet. ... (y) ...

the other view is - "that you still have some 'work' to do down here" - look for some unusual opportunities - visit ya priest and have a yarn - join a group and help others - don't stay lonely and of course you have us?

Apparently there is scientific research (epigenetic clock) aimed at a method of determining how long you have to live (dying a natural death). Would you want to know? I wouldn't unless there it was something I could do or stop doing to prolong it.

Fun New Mouth Swab Will Tell You When You’ll Die
I would definitely want to know in advance when I am going die. This will help me prepare for it tremendously. I can soend all my money before my death, and I can make arrangements to everything including my death.

No one knows when they are going to die. The only sure thing we know is that, if we are still alive, we know we are alive FOR SURE!

If I can play Civilization VI each day, I KNOW I am living.

yes but would you still want to know the date of your death, if you were told you were going to die from a long agonising illness...

Maybe live each day as if on will die on the next? You know starving will predict ones death shortly.
Once one enters hospice Morphine shuts ya down quickly too. Sleep it past ?

Hundreds of years ago many died very young. Not as many now but still a lot pass early. I guess bless and count up the ones a day.
I'm pretty sure Self Drivers will commit your suicide for you too.
