Family kicked off flight out of Florida

IMO there's not too many things that smell worse than B/O.

We had a new mechanic at work that really stunk form b/o and the other mechanics starting taping ads for deodorant on the outside of his wall locker as a hint, he'd get pissed and rip them off and more ads would magically reappear.....after a few days he apparently took the hint and started bathing and using deodorant.

Had a fella in Army basic training that wouldn't take a shower, one evening after chow several of us drug him into the showers kicking and screaming (the drill sergeants looked the other way) and we scrubbed him down real good with coarse bristle toilet and floor scrubbing brushes.....problem solved, he showered on his own after that.

Not all body odour is due to poor hygiene. There’s a rare metabolic disorder that causes it also.

Wonder if that applied to the guy I talked about upthread....maybe he was hygiene impaired or whatever. Could be he got note from doctor and HR consulted with legal dept. I'm just guessing. btw he was also quite obese. (This same corporation got all paranoid in the early 90s when a male engineer got a sex change operation, changed name, and started dressing like a woman. The issue was 'her' right to use women's rest room. But... I digress...)

Maybe not taking in as much territory, but breath can be as revolting.
Especially if the offender is whispering in yer ear….with the soft pungent essence of a thousand camels.

It can brings tears

United's policy is that they have the right to remove any passenger that causes a disturbance on the plane. This is a serious safety violation. One passenger like this woman can start a riot, so to speak. Her issue becomes the issue to other passengers and then next thing you know, we have passengers rolling in the aisle when physical contact occurs.

I have also had a few passengers removed over the years, mainly drunks, for starting a disturbance.

Oh yes I don't disagree with that policy at all Oldman... she was clearly spoiling for a fight with anyone, and possibly everyone, so yes it was right she was removed!!

Have you ever noticed that some young teens have BO and mainly it will smell like onions? As we go from child and enter puberty, other glands begin to start working. These glands will sometimes leak the enzymes, which will also sometimes form bacteria that causes these odors. It's also unpleasant and a real concern for the young teen.

There are now some body washes and deodorants that will aid in temporarily either in diminishing or completely removing these odors for several hours, but more than likely, they will return. Once the glands have fully developed, the smell will go away on its own, but this may last all through puberty.

The reason why I know this is because my son had this issue and our family doctor at that time just told us that he needs to bathe or do a better job of showering. We finally took him to a dermatologist and he was the one that advised us of this condition. It has a name, but I forget what it's called.

BTW, although boys are more likely to have this issue, girls are also minimally prone to having it, as well.

Certain diseases can also change a person's body chemistry/BO or create bad breath.

That is one of the reasons that experiments with dogs detecting certain cancers and diseases like diabetes have become so popular/promising in recent years.

The conditions that create these unpleasant situations are not as important to me as the way in which we choose to handle them.

Humans, in general, seem prone to a sort of crowd mentality when it comes to dealing with people that are different than they are.

IMO the world could use a little more empathy and compassion when dealing with others.

I agree. The world has gone so politically correct that we’ve become sterilized and intolerant

The woman on the plane was an idiot and very cruel.

I agree with Oldman, that in the confines of an airplane, this behavior certainly can become dangerous as he described. Therefore I agree this woman should have been removed.

A woman was removed from a United flight after fat shaming 2 passengers either side of her.

Yes, I just read that this morning. It seems like this sort of thing has become a regular occurrence on planes.

Alcohol probably has a lot to do with it but also the whole airport experience has become very stressful in the last few years.

By the time you get on the plane, you’ve been thru hell with long lines, missed connections, cancelled flights, etc....I used to like flying, hate it now but it’s still no excuse
to act out and be rude.

Seems like it’s becoming the new norm though. :(

The horror stories are endless....people sitting in feces covered seats, ugh...men urinating in the aisle or on others, double ugh!

I need to visit my son and grandsons in Illinois soon and I’m dreading the flight.

Agreed that the woman was rude beyond the pale and needed/deserved to be removed.

That said, and excuse me for stating the obvious, but why do you suppose the couple didn't take the middle and end seats? I mean, they were a couple traveling together. When it became apparent that their middle seat was going to be occupied, why not give up their window or aisle seat so they could sit together, which would be the obvious thing to do. My guess is that they feared they wouldn't fit comfortably side-by-side and were counting on a smaller person in the center seat so they could "share" that area.

I've been squished between very large people who don't fit well into airline seats and although I said nothing and fluffed it off, I wasn't happy at having strangers' bodies encroaching into my purchased seat space.

As seats get smaller and people get bigger - and politeness becomes a thing of the past - this situation is going to become more common.

By my reckoning, all three people in this incident had some responsibility for it, but the woman in the center seat was far and away the true villain.

Good point StarSong about the couple, I agree with you on everything.

On airplanes, things just have to be safe. Words lead to punches or worse, sometimes.

Thank you for explaining that oldman, I thought my grand kids were eating a lot of hamburgers with onions. I really did. Now that they are in their 20s things have eased up though.

Sorry I misquoted here. I meant to copy oldman saying teenagers often smelled like onions.

Another thing - sometimes people themselves bathe/use deodorant but they put on clothes or a jacket/coat that is way past due for laundry or a trip to the cleaners. Whatever cooking odors in their home (onions, garlic, bacon, fish, cabbage, etc.) will cling to them.

A friend told me her daughter had a job at a fast food place in high school and when she came home from work she reeked. She would leave her clothes at the back door and rush to shower and shampoo her hair.

These are kind of funny to watch but must be scary if you are on a flight like that. If you look on YouTube there are way too many...what’s wrong with people??

I pity that man with the cane if he was with her...I’m sure he didn’t feel like getting off.

Oh yes, YouTube has a lot of these but many are kind of long. Yes, I'd be scared too if I were on one of these flights.

She appears to be very drunk. I wonder why she was put off the flight to begin with, as she didn't seem to start screaming until they asked her to leave.

I thought the security guy handled it very well He remained calm and reasonable throughout.

I think it was because her dog was growling at the flight attendants and when they asked her to put the dog in it’s carrier she called the attendant a b*tch.

Right, the dog was growling and nipping at the crew and she refused to follow the request of the attendant. Animals shouldn't be allowed to roam free on a plane, imo. They don't know how to use the toilet.
