Have you got a favorite singer of all time? There have been numerous great singers over the centuries, it is so hard to narrow it down to just one. Example, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Connie Francis and so on...
But, i have always had a soft spot for Nat King Cole. I remember first hearing him when i was only a teenager way back in the '60's. He was singing " Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days Of Summer" on the radio. He had the most velvet-like voice! I fell in love with him. To this day, he is still my favorite singer, here is the song i love the most by Nat King Cole. "Smile". This song especially holds a special place in my heart, as it was one day in 2005, i was dusting and was kind of down, depressed as my father had just passed away. I was having a sad moment and suddenly this song "Smile" came on the radio. Listening to it seemed to calm me somehow, it was as though my Dad was sending me a message. To keep smiling and that he was okay. To this day, this song is special to me, i love it. And, whenever i think of Dad and get a little sad, this song comes to mind and seems to soothe me.
Do you have a favorite singer and/or song by them you would like to share?
I would love to hear about it and maybe a memory associated with it?
Brenda
Here is that song by Nat King Cole.
As well, one of the all-time great actors, Charlie Chaplin

That's a hard question..As far as voices that really touch me I'd have to pick Allison Krauss. There's just something about the purity in her sound.

Female?...Emmy Lou Harris........Hands down!!

Male?....Dwight Yoakam / Alan Jackson.

I love Nat King Cole's voice also. And I am a fan of Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger. The one whose voice always made me smile was Jimmy Durante.

But my all-time favorite male singer was Luciano Pavoratti.

Women? I don't know, have to think about that...

Chris Rea (at present)

But

If I had to listen to one, for the rest of this life?

easy

Ray Charles

Now, if it were one singer singing one song

Satchmo ‘What a wonderful world’

I couldn't possibly narrow it down to one singer, I have huge eclectic musical taste ... although overall I prefer a male voice to female that's the best I can do..

However as someone mentioned above if I could only listen to one voice(s) for the rest of my life I'd choose..

All of the Golden Oldies were great and we still
have there discs.

I best singer in my eyes/ears is not really a singer!

Jane Horrocks is an English comedy actress, you may
know her as "Bubbles" the receptionist in Absolutely
Fabulous.

Jane played the lead role in a film called "Little Voice",
where she imitated lots of very famous singers and for
the part she studied the singers and sang all the voices
herself, no dubbing.

So for that reason, for me she is the best ever.

Mike.

Tough question. I don't think there has ever been a singer for whom I can say I like all, or even almost all, of their songs. I like individual songs.

For their voices alone I'll pick ...

Frank Sinatra, but I don't care for most of his songs, especially the lyrics
Aretha Franklin, but her style of music is not my preference

Who could I listen to most of the day and not get tired of them?

James Taylor, Elton John, Carly Simon, off the top of my head.

Joss Stone
I can listen to for a very long time
....a very long time

one that could be my fav, one day
Any Winehouse
rather gritty, haunting

I could never pick just one either, just to name a few, here's some I've liked a lot over the years. Neil Young, Elton John, Johnny Mathis, Stevie Wonder, Van Morrison, John Denver, James Taylor, Simon & Garfunkel, Judy Collins, Dionne Warwick, etc.
