Favourite TV series

Currently watching The Newsroom and New Tricks. Fave series are Happy Valley, Midsomer, Shetland, Anika, Endeavour and many nordic noir such as The Bridge, Borgen, Wallander and too many to mention. Too many Brit cop procedurals to mention. American TV, mostly, is crappola (imho).

Downtown Abbey
Fawlty Towers
Darling Buds of May
there's more, but can't remember them
I remember when Downton Abbey first aired...everyone was talking about it so I figured I'd check it out. I said I'd give it two episodes and if it didn't grab me by then I'd stop watching. Well, I got hooked! My favorite character was Maggie Smith's character but I think all the actors/actresses were excellent, as was the writing.

If I made a list, it would be:

1-Star Trek
2-The Twilight Zone (original series)
3-The Outer Limits (original series)
4- The Avengers (British) (the 51 Emma Peel episodes)
5-Keeping Up Appearances (British)
6- The Vicar of Dibley (British)
7- Have Gun, Will Travel
8- Rawhide
9- The Last of the Summer Wine (British)
10- Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (Australian)

It is even better if one had the opportunity to visit Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey)...and chat with the owner. We did that at a cocktail party last Christmas.
Great experience.

I watch a variety of things, from documentaries to old black and white reruns. Breaking Bad was my all time favorite, and now I really like Your Honor, in some ways Brian Cranston plays a similar character in both.
I'm currently watching old reruns of Upstairs Downstairs... very relaxing..
I liked it back in the day, but now trying to watch reruns is hard. And the newer version isn't great either, not for me.
Never was a fan but my grandmother was.

She died of a heart attack, but only after a few days in the ICU. She had been unconscious for a day or so, and the doctor told us the end was near. She woke for the last time and asked us to turn the TV on, it was time for Dallas, and she was right. None of us knew what time it was or maybe even what day, we had been sitting with her 24 hours a day. She died just a few hours later. So for me Dallas has a kind of special meaning... bittersweet I guess.

What newer version ? There never was a newer version

I think there was, or is - about the newer one:

Upstairs Downstairs is a British drama series, broadcast on BBC One from 2010 to 2012, and co-produced by BBC Wales and Masterpiece. Created and written by Heidi Thomas, it is a continuation of the London Weekend Television series of the same name, which ran from 1971 to 1975 on ITV.

The series resumes the story of 165 Eaton Place in 1936 London, six years after the original series concluded. Jean Marsh reprises her role as Rose Buck, who becomes housekeeper of the re-established household, with Ed Stoppard and Keeley Hawes playing its new owners Sir Hallam and Lady Agnes Holland. The first series, consisting of three episodes, was broadcast across consecutive nights during Christmas 2010. The second series consists of six episodes, first aired between 19 February 2012 and 25 March 2012. The series ends at the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939.

I never saw any new version of upstairs downstairs in 2012... I doubt that it was shown on BBC tv.....for one thing Gordon Jackson who played Hudson, and essentially the leading character had been dead since 1990....

I just found this... apparently it only ran for 2 seasons in 2010.. and bombed.... and was taken off the network

While the original ran for five seasons; the continuation only ran for two seasons, mainly due to Jean Marsh's continuing health issues. The continuation mainly didn't last due to the fact that Rose was reduced to two cameos in the second and final season and she was considered to be the only real tangible connection to both incarnations of the show.

Much of the second season dealt with the struggles of the residents, both above and below stairs, as World War II was looming. Agnes was dealing with having given birth to her second child, Veronica; not to mention dealing with her scheming sister, and trying to do her best in running the household. She had a good support system from her husband's aunt, Blanche, with whom she felt more comfortable than her late mother in-law.

Oh! I need to catch up with you all!🙂
Just finished watching "Justified" and "Bosch". I enjoyed both of those series. I am presently watching "Joe Pickett" (so far, so good)

Never watched 'Soaps' in the US and couldn't understand their appeal.

After paying the 'TV Tax' and buying a TV set up to receive the 'PAL' signal, we jumped right in to
the few channels we could get.
Not sure how it happened, but I got caught up watching 'Eastenders' shortly after our move to the UK.
Having moved there in 1987 and the show first aired in 1985, I had some catching up to do.
Of course this was a time before streaming, so I relied on my British friends to fill me in on the story.
Another thing we missed when we headed back to the US in 1990 was all the really good programs.

The characters and writing were miles ahead of anything the US was producing.
