Finding my long lost sister.

My family is complicated. Dad's on his 3rd marriage. My brother and I were in the first marriage. My sister Laura was from the second marriage. My sister Laura was born when I was 17. We didn't spend much time in the family house together. My sister has been having a rough time over the past few years, and has pretty much disappeared.

We've been trying desperately to get ahold of her. She lives in "Silicon Valley," California. We live in Minnesota now. Awhile ago my Dad bought me a FitBit (fitness monitor device) to encourage me to lose weight. I noticed my sister Laura has a FitBit, and submitted a friend request through Facebook & FitBit. Laura accepted my friendship request. Now, for the first time in years, we're seeing the slightest effort for he to reach out.

I couldn't resist. I made this video. Laura made the "Intro & Outro" for the video years ago. I wanted to share the good news about my weight loss and reach out to her.

What a nice Christmas present for both you and your sister, Ron. And congratulations on the weight loss.

Thanks. It's interesting how one thing sometimes leads to another. I really hope to hear from Laura soon. It's been far too long. And I think both of us would benefit from the reunion!

Congrats on the weight loss, keep up the exercise, it's good for your well-being, not just for weight. I have a treadmill which I use during the winter months. Not crazy about it, would rather walk outside but better than nothing. Happy for you and your sister reuniting!

Good news Ron. Isn't it amazing how these things come about?
It isn't hard to think that there is a purposeful hand behind some things.

Make the most of your reunion with previously lost family members because it is a precious gift.

Thanks, Carla & Warrigal. Right now I might be prematurely hopeful. If she keeps updating her FitBit stats, that means she owns a FitBit monitor device, and has a cellphone. The FitBit device uses your smartphone to relay the info to your FitBit dashboard.

Congrats on the weight loss, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the video, fun and quite touching too how much it means to you to connect with little sis. I hope you get your wish.

AprilT, thanks. Of all the "kids," in our family, Laura & I have the most in common. She's a beautiful, talented woman. I'm only sorry I wasn't around to see her grow up.

Thanks BlondieBoomer & Ruth n Jersey. We're hoping to persuade Laura to move back to Minnesota to be near family again.

Thanks. It appears Laura is actively exercising her stats increase each day.

To tell you the truth, I haven't been feeling well, and haven't walked for a week or so.

I'm sorry to hear that, Ron. I guess this is the time of the year with all the cold and wet weather that it's easy to catch a bug. And so many people coughing and sneezing. I hope you feel better. I Guess rest is the best thing sometimes.

BlondieBoomer, it's really hard for me because my brother and I aren't involved with most of the family holidays. We got pushed back around 1983, a year or two after my Dad married his latest wife. I was shocked when I was invited over for Thanksgiving this year. Didn't get invited for Christmas, even though I offered to give them a 15lb turkey!

Hope you feel better soon Ron, and good luck in making contact with your sister. Kudos on your weight loss!

I'm sorry I hadn't responded to this thread sooner. I'm not even sure why I stopped coming here. But I am back.

I never connected with my sister. Apparently she has decided to sever contact with all or most of her relatives. The includes relatives on her mother's side of the family. My brothers and I were from Dad's first marriage. Laura was from the second marriage. My brothers and I were removed from the "core" family during that second marriage. I've just decided to accept the fact that I may never see Laura again.

It's harder for me to walk now. My right knee hurts a lot. When I was younger, I was a security guard. I had to stand up all night. I have a bad knee on the right and a bad ankle on the left!

I will always love my sister. But I won't mourn the loss any more.

Good to see you again Ron, sorry you couldn't connect with your sister, some things are just out of our control. Hoping your knee feels better soon, are you seeing a doctor for it?

SeaBreeze, I'm hesitant to see my Doctors these days. I've had a sore left arm for 6 months. I went to the Emergency room a few months ago. I thought it was broken. The doctor explained why it wasn't broken, and said an XRay was not needed. I get tired of paying money and not really getting any health care.
