Finding Your Happy Place

As usual I'm racing around doing more than is humanly possible. But this morning I was at the pet store, a fish filter here and rat log there, a new collar for Ninja, cat toys...okay just one bag of toys. Then I wandered to the back trying remember what I was forgetting. They have a cattery set up by local rescue groups.

This morning one of the volunteers was in there cleaning cages. I saw cats scrambling at her feet. One was a brown tabby...looked like Delilah, one of the cats we used to have. He's giving that come hither stare and I just had to go in and say hello. I sat on a bench and was surrounded by three gorgeous kitties.

The purring and the licking and the loving that went on...If it wasn't for Sophie we'd have three more cats right now. But what was amazing was how much more relaxed I felt as I left the room. It was as good for me as it was for them. What do you do that gets you all zen?

Mountains and waterfalls. Actually, just about any moving water......except maybe when I'm washing dishes - lol.

The "zennist" I get is when I'm sitting on a rock in the middle of a stream with my feet in the water. Next would be standing at the beach with the wave coming in and frothing around my ankles. I have a lot of vacation pictures taken all over the country of my feet in various bodies of water. OK, I'm weird. But they're happy feet.

Walks through the forest. Even better when my two youngest grandchildren are walking with me. They like to hunt for "treasures" to make into art objects or wind-chimes when we get home.

I also go zen when I wake up to a yard full of deer...even when they nibble at my flower garden. (my veggie garden is deer-proofed)

The woods definitely, I miss when I used to take Sophie up to the nature reserve. She could go off leash in those days. She would run like a gazelle and we'd watch the sun come up. She's too unstable now to be near other creatures. I still go up there myself sometimes. Blessed quiet...
I came to the library today for the quiet. Hubby was watching Family Guy in the living room...LOUD. Either I had to go somewhere peaceful or the TV was going to launch out the window.

I think this is a great thread! My happy place is more than just one thing. The thing I love most is sitting in an isolated spot on a river bank with my feet dangling in cold clear water and listening to the water. I don't have that available near me anymore, so I've found other happy things. I live in the country and I like to just sit outside sometimes when it's sunny and feel the heat of the sun. I won't do that in the summer when it's hot though. I like to doodle and dig in the dirt growing things. I would generally say my happy place is painting , but I haven't done it in a year. I'm still replacing supplies that burnt up. My grandchildren make me happy when they visit. I like to watch the little dirt birds out in my back yard. I don't know what they are really called. I call them dirt birds because they blend in with the color of the dirt so well you may not notice them. Laughing is a big stress reliever for me, so I watch a lot of comedy. And..home made pie makes me happy..but it's evil :p

I was taught to find my Zen place no matter where I am or what I'm doing.

... yeah. So much for that.

So - maybe at the seashore. Water makes me feel all Zen.

My happy place is being out in nature, enjoying the quiet, sounds of birds, watching the wildlife, rivers, streams, waterfalls, stars, breezes rustling through the leaves, the ocean, and of course being around my furkids.

I have to say living here in the west it is a west coast rain forest.

here I just loose myself in the sheer scope of the nature and the smell is nothing short of spectacular. Add a waterfall and stream I am in heaven. Warmer climates just don't so it for me and I have been to warmer climates. There is just something about the rain forest and being Wiccan only adds to it.

Last spring we got some great bikes and we go on very long rides on bike trails or in countryside. I often find myself smiling or humming at the beauty of the scenery and the pure simple pleasure of riding. One of the spots that makes me feel zen....purely in the present...

Annie that IS lovely. I'd take picnic supplies and stay all day. Lovely

Vicky I really love thunderstorms too.

Our bikes are pedal-assisted electrics, so we can easily do a 50 mile ride in one day - and our rides are often very hilly. We do bring snacks, but we often seem to find a cafe late morning and stop for a cappuccino and a scone. Then a stop for lunch and end the day with a stop for dinner and pint of beer.

I love the sight of snow falling on on the trees, my birds flying around the room, a bottle of Southern Comfort (Just kidding).
