Five Black Memphis Tn. Police Officers Alleged To Have Beat Black Motorist For Reckless Driving

We don't often see black cops in a gang killing a black person, don't you agree?
Yes I agree, but you're focusing on the color of their skin instead of their role in the police force. A bad cop can be any color. They are power hungry and have emotional/mental issues like everyone else, except they are in a position of power. They give dedicated police officers a bad name and put a gray cloud over the entire force. My skin is white, and I have much less confidence in the police than I had when I was younger. Too many incidents of them behaving badly, in a deadly manner.

I agree somewhat but the color issue always comes up when white police hurt or kill black people so it's probably natural for me to do the same. It's such a sad thing to see no matter what races are involved.

Looking at the video, I count at least 9 officers, maybe 10.
2 of the people at the scene may have been fire department employees?
5 officers have been charged with murder, 4 of them released on bail? Why is there always so many law enforcement officers to deal with an unarmed person?
A member asked on another forum when will this BS stop?
I personally do not think it will ever stop. Some people become police officers because of the perceived power having a badge.
Some people are not suited to law enforcement.
Take the case of Mohammad Noor who was convicted of second degree murder of Justine Damond.
His trainer recommended Mr Noor not be hired because of his personality traits made him unsuitable.
Because Mr Noor was the first Somali refugee to apply, and be hired, to become a policeman for the Minneapolis Police Department, the hierarchy wanted to show that they were inclusive and ignored the advice of his trainer.
Politics will always trump recommendations.

I understand how you're feeling, but it has been proven repeatedly that they have pulled people over just for driving while black. If they have a tail light out or something like that, it becomes a death sentence for them. Tyre was not threatening with a gun or a knife, they had no reason to kill him. They continued to beat him after he was limp, no threat at all. All those cops, and the killing still took place. What happened to the good ol' days where they used their handcuffs and took someone in if they were suspected of any crime? .

I see but it's also been proven that the crime rate is higher than among other races, unfortunately. Police encounter much more crimes by blacks so they tend to generalize and not look at blacks as differing individuals. Conversely, because of that blacks tend to generalize about "all whites.". I don't know the answer but believe everyone needs more education on these issues. Myself included.

I tried to watch the videos and they were just too disgusting to watch in their entirety.

The problem is that the best and the brightest don't become police officers these days, which is evidenced by the frequency and regularity of these instances of police misconduct. I mean, the guy was on the ground, on his side, and one of the cops was yelling at him to get on the ground. WTF?

Zip-tie his legs together and then wait until he calms down. What's he going to do? Hop away? Some cops are too frickin' stupid to be allowed to have power over other people. Other's are a-holes just looking for an opportunity to bust some heads.

No decent person would want to have to work with the imbeciles on the police force, so all they get are more imbeciles.

And when there is no crime going on, they create one, like with Tyre. No petty 'crimes' give these cops the right to act as judge and executioner either. They should do their job, make the arrest and stop the damn killings. You can make excuses for them, but they don't hold water. They not only don't look at blacks as 'differing individuals', but some don't even look at them as humans.....definitely not equals. There needs to be police reform and cops who can't act within the law themselves need to get the boot. Boot out the racists and the hotheads who just want to bust heads as @Bretrick mentioned.

Completely agree with this.

..but it still wouldn't stop this happening. After all all these Polce had body cameras on, and were also being filmed by the overhead helicopter camera and they knew this and it didn't stop them!!
It's probably like "Riot mentality" it starts with 50, then 150, then 300 then the cops come and it's "Let's attack them too"

They started assaulting a young kid because they're cops, then it stopped being a butt kicking, but an all out "Contempt of Cop" reprisal.

Cops like attack dogs get juices flowing when chasing a subject. God help them when caught, it's not gentle

Nothing shot of shooting the officers would have stopped them.

Sorry you have gotten upset but the fact that blacks create more crime stays in the mind of police (because they see that all the time!!,)causes their bias wich is not an easy thing to disuage. I'm not making excuses only disclosing some truths which may be hard for you to fathom. The truth hurts for sure.

They're so excited at the prospect of hurting/killing someone, they forget they're on video.
Here is another example. A car theft suspect gives up, lays down on the ground with his hands stretched out, waiting for police to arrest him.
Several police officers move in & handcuff the suspect.
Another officer runs up to the prone suspect & kicks him in the head.
That wasn't accidental, not one bit.

Where are their supervisors, the chief of police etc? These power crazed thugs didn't just get like that on the day of this incident. There must have been signs of these officers overstepping their boundaries in terms of use of force prior to this incident. Who's reviewing their body cam footage on a regular basis? Was nothing ever noted and brought up with them in job assessments? Management needs to learn some pretty important lessons from this if anything's gonna change.

Why were 4 of these officers released on bail?

TN law permits it, but you can bet it was big #s.

2010 Tennessee Code
Title 40 - Criminal Procedure
Chapter 11 - Bail
Part 1 - Admission to Bail
40-11-102 - Bailable offenses.

Before trial, all defendants shall be bailable by sufficient sureties, except for capital offenses where the proof is evident or the presumption great. After conviction, defendants are bailable as provided by, § 40-11-113, § 40-11-143 or both.

I don't think I will watch the video; it would hurt too much. I can't imagine and don't want to imagine, really, the pain and suffering his family, particularly his mother is going through! Why would 5 officers need to descend on one unarmed man? Why would they feel they needed to beat him senseless. He's not even recognizable in the photo from the hospital ! Why? Because like previously mentioned...they were pumped up on their power over him. But stupidly, they "forgot" their every action was being recorded and would come back to bite them in the a*s.

God bless his family for enduring this intense pain with dignity and calling for peaceful protest. I wouldn't care if the officers were purple with pink polka dots, they must be punished for the horrible wrong they did. I would feel this way if the victim was any other race. I had a friend who was a police officer for a brief time. He said he couldn't take the sh*t he saw being done on the force. He also said some people do not need to become police officers and that some of them knew how to circumvent the psych evaluations. Look how many police officers are accused of domestic violence. That power mixed with brutal minds has been proven to be very dangerous, time and time again. I wonder if they honestly thought the "blue code" had their backs and they'd get away with what they've done. Can't wait until they get sent to prison! The shoes will be on the other feet then.

...but the Cops were themselves Black!!

I looked into the background of these 5 Officers and there is nothing showing that they have ever been accused of doing any type of deeds such as these. None of this makes sense. When the suspect ran, he was finally recaptured and brought down about a half mile from his home. He can be heard yelling “Mom” several times while lying on the street.

I can’t even come up with a plausible reason. I noticed on the video that they botched their initial arrest by not putting on the cuffs as they were trained to do. They didn’t need to drag him out the car. He was attempting to get out on his own, but the Officers decided otherwise. Did they feed off of one another’s anxiety? I don’t know.

One thing is for certain, this is absolutely disgusting. I saw on the news that ANTIFA was getting ready last evening to cause havoc in several cities. This isn’t going away any time soon.

“Good” cops do not perform in this manner. “Good” cops do their duty legally and responsibly. I was a “good” cop. I served the public in their best interest. I can’t ever remember ever dragging a driver out of a car. If you talk to people reasonably and treat them respectfully, they will abide by a policeman’s request. Whenever I have requested a driver to “please step out of your vehicle,” they have obliged . Some of them weren’t happy, but they did as asked. That is generally the most dangerous time to an Officer besides when walking up to an open window. This is why cops that are suspicious of a driver will walk up to a vehicle on the right hand side. Most people are right-handed. An Officer can see inside the car, even at night with a flashlight being shined inside the vehicle, what’s in the driver’s hands. It can be a scary situation. Have I ever hit anyone. Yes, a few, but only after they either hit me or tried to hit me first. The fights never lasted long. The Pennsylvania State Police do have a good record among other state police and highway patrol units. We pride ourselves on respecting the rights of others. Are we perfect, heck no. We have had a few bad eggs, but they didn’t kill anyone or stick around long.

I watched the video for a minute this morning and could not believe what I was seeing.
Just shocked and nauseated me to the core.
What is happening to people?
We have similar occurrences here in Canada
Where will it all end..........

Stop the world I want to get off.
You might want to read this statement from the Association of Chiefs of Police in Ontario. They clearly say that this situation in Memphis is despicable and totally against what Police in Canada are expected to do. Link. Canadian police chiefs speak out on death of Black man beaten by U.S. officers (yahoo.com) There have also been very pointed public statements from the Chiefs of Peel Region, York Region, Halton Region, London Police, Ottawa Police, Sudbury Police, the Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police, and the Commissioner of the RCMP, all of which were highly critical.
